Blackburn Goal of the Month (Jan)

Each month, you the Vital Blackburn members are given the chance to vote for what you thought was the goal of the month. Where possible you are also given the chance of actually seeing the goal!

The votes have been cast and after being given the option of these six Rovers goals for January...

Morten Gamst Pedersen
Sunday 7th verses Everton, Goodison Park, FA Cup (4-1 win)
At the time Morten Gamst Pedersen was rapidly getting back to his very best (he's since found his best!) His 25-yard free kick with the difficult to judge FA Cup football was a corker from the top drawer (as Jonathan Pearce would say!) Up and over the wall and past a flapping Tim Howard who had more chance of taking off than saving it. To see goal click here

Paul Gallagher
Sunday 7th verses Everton, Goodison Park, FA Cup (4-1 win)
With the ball delivered up to the tall Scot he expertly chested the ball down before turning Joseph Yobo and slotting under Howard. The purists out their will say he was given too much time but even being given time didn`t make what he did easy. To see goal click here

Benni McCarthy
Sunday 7th verses Everton, Goodison Park, FA Cup (4-1 win)
The South African made a substitute appearance and wrapped up the game once and for all in injury time. Not once but twice did Benni almost lose his footing but he kept fighting before beating his two men and rifling an unstoppable drive that whistled past Howard. To see goal click here

Morten Gamst Pedersen
Saturday 20th verses Manchester City, City of Manchester Stadium, Premiership (3-0 win)
Having already scored one goal (unbelievably with his head!) Morten Gamst Pedersen then scored with a trademark free kick. A fantastic left footed strike from the left hand edge of the area from 25-yard curled around the wall and into the very corner of the goal beyond Nicky Weaver's disappearing dive. Matt Derbyshire
Saturday 27th verses Luton Town, Kenilworth Road, FA Cup (4-0 win)
Having made several runs previously narrowly being caught offside each time he again collected a ball on the run, ran with it for a while before drilling home without looking at the goal. To see goal click here

Morten Gamst Pedersen
Saturday 27th verses Luton Town, Kenilworth Road, FA Cup (4-0 win)
Having taken a corner Morten Gamst Pedersen was lurking around the area waiting for a chance. After a comical air kick from Christopher Samba the ball eventually found its way back to Gamst who first time expertly curled the ball into the corner with the outside of his left boot showing great technique. you voted in favour of Morten Gamst Pedersen with 57%, deciding his strike on Saturday 27th against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in the FA Cup fourth round was the best.

Gamst Pedersen's was always likely to win the vote with one of his three goals, the one against Luton showed that bit extra in quality and technique summing what Gamst Pedersen is all about and the quality he posses.

So in summary
Pedersen v Everton (a) - 7%
Gallagher v Everton (a) - 7%
McCarthy v Everton (h) - 7%
Pedersen v Man City (a) - 15%
Derbyshire v Luton (a) - 7%
Pedersen v Luton (a) - 57%

With the Rovers Player and Goal the Month Polls for January out of the way, both won by Morten Gamst Pedersen. The current poll suggested by govtpros, and a theme aimed at continuing the recollection of Rovers' past and not just present is asking, "most consecutive Rovers League appearances?"

Hardly a surprise considering it was packed with such fabulous technique and power!!!! Another goal of the month contender for MOTD??? Not while Lineker and Lawro are on there but we all know different
BomBom

We should know by now that Rovers goals never get the run of the green Goal of the Month.
MikeyGamst
Oh I do Mikey. Still grinds my gears that the Maestro missed out to Anelka with his volley in November (was it?) then to make it worse the following Month Scholes (for an almost carbon copy!) won it, ahead of some Rovers stars but for me ahead of the goal it SHOULD have been Matthew Taylor from the half way line.
Hughes Da Man
Totally agree BomBom. A great goal by a great player!
sandgroanun
