Lucas Neil Sold Out

Lucas Neil Sold Out
The vast majority (68%) believe that in leaving Blackburn Rovers for West Ham United Lucas Neill sold out. 15% felt he was a genius for taking the money while the final 17% think that he was sold out by his advisors (Peter Harrison!)

I think we've all shared our views on Neill, it is now done and dusted he's moved on as will we. I could keep publishing work where he defends his move etcetera but as I say it is now time to move on... at least until the Hammers visit Ewood Park on March 17th!

So in summary
Sell out - 68%
Genius - 15%
Sold out by advisors - 17%

I still regard Jucas (I've taken to BomBom's new name for him!) as a quality Rovers player in the clubs history but the move has left me (as it as many of us!) betrayed so this will soil his good work a little. This betrayal off the pitch will stick in some people's minds more than the good he done on it as sad as it is to say.

HEHE, props for ME!! lol This whole affair reminds me of the Craig Bellamy thing during the summer. The only difference being Neill always said that he wanted out. He was a decent enough player for us, came on in leaps and bounds under Sparky (and less Reds too!). Good luck to him but lets not be too quick to dub him a modern day Rovers legend eh?

To be honest and I've said this before (and this isn't or wasn't sour grapes AT ALL!) I honestly don't think he's a great as he and maybe even some of us think. All the attention has come off the back of a very good performance on the World stage but without wanting to be harsh to Lucas, the Aussies or the World Cup it was average at best wasn't it? The Barca interest came about due to the Aussie coach going there after the WC, when Barca get linked with a player of the time the Milans etc. soon follow. He has come on leaps and bounds under Sparky without question but if he was genuinely the class of Barca, Liverpool etc. he'd play week in week out and know he would do so so wouldn't have had any reservations about going there... the fact that he knows he wouldn't suggests even he knows he probably isn't of that quality. At 28 if he had been of that quality he would have been there before wouldn't he?!?!

Neill was a solid player but not a great, as u have to have something really special about u to be considered like that, was Neill like Shearer, Hendry, Tugay or Freidel for instance? Not in my opinion! Neill has said he went to West Ham cos they wanted him more and was nothing to do with the near 70,000 a week he'll pick up with the 500,000 relegation clause he has as well??? Sure why would u join a top 4 team team that can offer Champions League games to go to a team fighting relegation? why he just didnt come clean and say 'Heh I got offered more money and took it'!! nobody would have batted an eyelid, but to keep up this - its for football - reason is just thick! He left a club that is in a better postion than the one he went to and turned down a club in a better postion than the one he left and this was all about football was it? I dont think so

I couldnt agree more. Within a certain team frame or under certain coaches, he can shine. I honestly believe he has reflected his managers persona. Look at when Souey brought him to Ewood, he was tough, all action, no nonsense, collecting red and yellow cards for fun, but that was an image of his then manager. Look at him under Sparky, same aggression as before but less cautions and dismissals, maybe thats down to more discipline from his manager. If he was to truly make that step to a major club, it would've happened either before he signed on with Millwall, or now and seeing as hes done neither, one can safely assume that Lucas will not have that chance again. Unless Curbs suddenly can turn water i nto wine and organises "fishes and loaves" night at Upton Park.

Football is just about money these days. The wages paid to players are ridiculous.
