Blackburn Goal of the Month (Dec)

Blackburn Goal of the Month (Dec)
Each month, you the Vital Blackburn members are given the chance to vote for what you thought was the goal of the month. Where possible you are also given the chance of actually seeing the goal!

The votes have been cast and after being given the option of these six Rovers goals for December…

Shabani Nonda
Saturday 2nd verses Fulham, Ewood Park, Premiership (2-0 win)
With the Congolese striker in desperate need of a goal he finally got one after more than two-months of trying. Stephane Henchoz's long ball from the back expertly picked out Nonda but whether he intended to bring the ball down and then shoot or if he intended the touch to be the goal scoring effort only he knows, but do we care! Morten Gamst Pedersen
Saturday 9th verses Newcastle United, Ewood Park, Premiership (3-1 defeat)
With the Norwegian very much out of form he needed to produce something, and that he did with a superb effort just into the second half. He picked up the ball, ran with it for a while them unleashed a venomous 25-yard drive into the top corner that left Shay Given helpless despite his best efforts, all of this with his right foot! Lucas Neill
Wednesday 13th verses Nancy, Ewood Park, UEFA Cup (1-0 win)
In the dying moments of the UEFA Cup group E clash against the run of play Rovers stole the win to top the group. With Nancy being unable to clear the ball if found its way to Neill who chested the ball down to give himself some space and time before drilling home giving the goalkeeper no chance. If Neill's possible transfer from Ewood won't be worth millions the goal certainly could. To see goal click here

David Bentley
Saturday 16th verses Reading, Madejski Stadium, Premiership (2-1 win)
After winning the ball back from John Oster on the half way line Bentley ran and ran and ran with the ball before unleashing an unstoppable 20-yard pile driver into the roof of the goal late on. To see goal click here

Benni McCarthy
Tuesday 26th verses Liverpool, Ewood Park, Premiership (1-0 win)
This was a great team goal, with a patient build up. Tugay's tremendous skill then devilishly delightful through ball picked out Morten Gamst Pedersen in the box who then squared to the waiting McCarthy who smashed home from close range to give Rovers a priceless win. To see goal click here

Shabani Nonda
Saturday 30th verses Middlesbrough, Ewood Park, Premiership (2-1 win)
Lucas Neill's long cross field pass was watched over his shoulder by the Congolese International who then expertly placed a volley beyond Mark Schwarzer for a superbly taken goal, the kind of goal that made Mark Hughes want to sign him. To see goal click here

you voted in favour of David Bentley with 56%, deciding his strike on Saturday 16th against Tottenham Hotspur at the Madejski Stadium in the Premiership was the best.

Bentley's goal was a worthy winner not only because of the sheer quality of the strike but also because of its importance. The strike gave us three valuable points at a time they were very, very, very much needed when it looked like we wouldn't get them having already seen three goals disallowed in this match.

So in summary
Nonda v Fulham (h) - 12%
Pedersen v Newcastle (h) - 10%
Neill v Nancy (h) - 8%
Bentley v Reading (h) - 56%
McCarthy v Liverpool (h) - 6%
Nonda v Middlesbrough (h) - 8%

Somewhat surprisingly one of the goals that I personally felt was one of the month's top goals Benni McCarthy's against Liverpool ended last with only 6%! The goal after a fine move surely deserved more than 6%...

Certainly, Bents strike was crucial and a deserving winner; how crucial that may prove? Not a bad goal either!!! The goal against Liverpool would have people drooling all over it if scored by one of the big four.

I'm in agreement there HDM. Although it was my second choice behind Bentley's I feel the Benni goal hasn't had the praise it deserves. Pleased that Bentley's won though.
