January- Yo Yo Time!

January, the month where the transfer window opens and everything goes into chaos....lets look at who and what happened at Blackburn...

First of all, the name that was on everybodies lips, Ronaldinho...Will he, wont he? Well we know, he didnt, and he went back home to Brazil. The owners launched an audacious bid to sign the Brazilian international as a marquee signing, unfortunately it didnt happen. Other names were linked, Beckham and Riquelme, but both were fruitless.

Onto more realistic targets it was. Rovers managed to sign Roque Santa Cruz and Jermaine Jones on loan, whilst the long chase for Rochina and Formica was sealed on deadline day, both clinching long term contracts.

On the revolving door out went El Hadji Diouf on loan to Rangers, Pascal Chimbonda was released and a whole bunch of fringe and youth players were provided the opportunity to leave on loan.

In related news, new contracts were the flavour of the month, Salgado, Nelsen, Blackman and Samba signing onto new terms, whilst Robinson, Bunn and Jones are on the cusp of new contracts.

Onto the pitch. Boy was it a yo-yo month or what?

Sunderland on New Years Day. A miserable performance from Blackburn, aided by fortune for the home team at the Stadium of Light left Blackburn heading back home empty handed, a 3-0 defeat.

Liverpool at Ewood- A complete turn around in performance. Rovers destroyed Liverpool in all departments, a brace for Benjani and a goal for Martin Olsson launched Blackburn up the league table, and also saw Roy Hodgson sent packing, with Kenny Dalglish taking the reigns...

FA Cup- Junior Hoillet was the man, scoring late after Rovers wasted a range of opportunities, defeating QPR 1-0. The game however would be remembered for an incident involving El Hadji Diouf and QPR manager Neil Warnock....

Chelsea at the Bridge- Not a happy hunting ground for Blackburn, and that continued, with Anelka and Ivanovic, both players with a knack of scoring against us, putting the ball in the back of the net, 2-0 to the home outfit

West Brom at Ewood Park- Rovers climbed up to a season high of 7th spot, after a stunning performance against West Brom. Goals either side of the break, an own goal and a Hoillet stunner earned Blackburn a 2-0 victory.

Villa in the Cup- Again! Boy do they have the wood on us in the cup, 3-1 victors despite Kalinic scoring an equaliser early on, and a red card with 30 minutes to go!

SO January was busy to say the least. Consistency is needed at Ewood Park to ensure a top 10 finish, lets hope Kean and the boys can work on it and get things going regularly
