Which is best? Sexism or Racism?

Which is best? Sexism or Racism?
So the internets are full of 'graykeysgate' at the moment, and people tend to swing between it was sexist banter and sexism, and not much worse than you hear from some comics on a Saturday night. But, the difference here is that this wasn't two comics on a panel show, it was two people, talking in private (or so they thought) and reflecting their honest opinions.

Replace the word 'woman' with 'black' and the 'banter' appears in a whole new light. Now of course I'm not suggesting that either of them made any kind of racist comment, but to suggest that discrimination against someone because of the colour of their skin is any worse than prejudice against someone because of their sex is to say that being sexist is more ok than being a racist.

So if you are trying to tell me that being sexist is not as serious as being racist then perhaps you can tell me where the line is? At what point does banter become discrimination? If sexism ok, then what about ageism?

Is it better or worse than discriminating against people who are gay? or disabled? or Jewish? or fat? where do those people fit on the gamut of bigotry?

I suppose I am kind of the 'victim' of this but i really don't care. I know I know what the offside rule is, the lines woman on Saturday showed she knew what the offside rule is and thats all that matters. It's ok for 4 women to sit round on ITV every lunch time and moan and bad mouth men, but then these to say something like this and they get hauled over the coals.........double standards????

The sad thing is that it appeared to be said in seriousness rather than as a throwaway attempt at humour. Perhaps it is time for Gray and Keys to pass the baton on to more enlightened presenters. Having said that only the nutters around would get agitated about the views of TV presenters anyway. All women, like all men, have to prove themselves every day in the workplace. The lineswoman did a great job and will only be uplifted by this media coverage - so good for her.

I think they went a little over the top with the comments but i don't think they meant it in a sexist way. It's a standing joke about women not knowing the offside rule and always asking their othr halves how it works and is only a bit of fun, i can't see how it would offend anybody. it's hard enough for die hard fans to keep up with how the offside rule works so it's no wonder why wives and girlfriends are always aking how it works. Anyway The 'Lineswoman' proved the two of them wrong with a great call that looked borderline at first so she Definitely does know the offside rule.

They really should be punished for the remarks. Its not on really. And if they don't lose their jobs for being sexist maybe they will for the god awful opinions and coverage they provide.

I think its all been blown out of proportion, and they have apologised which has been accepted so that should be the end of it

Ron Atkinson was sacked and has since been remembered as a racist for doing the same thing (ie thinking his mic was off). I don't see why it should be the end of it though. There is a problem in the game re homophobia and sexism that needs to be dealt with in the same way that racism has been. To excuse this pair because they've apologised would imo endorsing their behaviour.
