May- Rovers Finish In Style
With the task of Arsenal visiting Ewood, and an away trip to Villa ending the season, it could have been safe to say the lads will pack their bags early, and set off to the sunny seas, or to South Africa for the Cup, but, they showed us all wrong
The Month of May did start off with the breaking news that Site founder, our beloved Walker (formerly known as HDM), would be stepping down as the big man up stairs, with Mr Mikey Delap taking over. On behalf of all VBERS, we would like to thank Walker for the superb job he has put in over the years, and will continue to rely on his experience as the site continues to blossom. I would also like to wish Mr Delap the very best in looking after this site, and developing it even further, even if myself and Bombom will do our very best to make his life difficult!!!
So back to the footy. Arsenal visited the fortress, and boy was their some brilliant football on display. Fabregas and RVP ran us ragged, Walcott tore down the flanks, Arshavin used all his trickery whilst Bendtner was his clinical self. No wait, that was last season. This was Blackburn at its best, David Dunn with the master class in midfield, with Vince Grella actually putting in a superb 90 minutes, Jason Roberts working his socks off, whilst Chris Samba destroyed anything that came in his path. David Dunn and Chris Samba picked up the simplest of goals to give Blackburn a 2-1 win, and leaving the big 4 (well Liverpool arent big 4 anymore i guess) winless Fortress Ewood.
As with the season ending, the transfer rumours continued. However, two were put to rest. Emerging superstar Phil Jones signed a 5 Year first team contract, expressing his delight at securing his future at the beloved club. Morten Gamst Pedersen put months of speculation behind, securing a boost in his contract for the next couple of years.
The likes of Joe Ledley and Guti were linked to Rovers, whilst every striker over 6ft 3 also had a link to the Lancashire outfit...
And so the final Day came, a tricky trip to Aston Villa. 2 new names appeared on the team sheet, Linganzi debuting in midfield, whilst academy graduate Grant Hanley slotted in at central defence, never looking out of place. An 84th minute Own Goal by Richard Dunne proved the difference, netting Blackburn a boosted 2.25 million pounds in the transfer kitty for the 10th spot finish, and yours truly a couple of hundred dollars for coming up trumps in a multi bet...
So with the season over, it was transfer window time, who will come, who will go. First of all, Blackburn Rovers might actually go, with Sas breaking the news of the proposed tournament in Sydney featuring Blackburn Rovers, Rangers FC, Boca Juniors and host team, Sydney FC, in what should be something to behold
As for the transfers, Steven Reid departed our shores, linking with West Brom Albion whilst Sam Allardyce quickly shut down any talk of Vince Grella making way to Galatasary.
Brett Emerton, Vince Grella, Ryan Nelsen and Lars Jacobsen were all called up for their national teams, giving Blackburn 4 representatives at this years World Cup in South Africa.
Another transfer rumour was thrown around, our very own Sam Allardyce linked with the job at West Ham, though Mr Williams quickly shut that down, claiming Sam is not leaving, and if he was, West Ham would have to cough up big.
o to 2010/2011 we look forward to, with hopefully bigger and brighter things for our beloved club
