April....Points Dropped, Rumours Galore!

April....Points Dropped, Rumours Galore!
April Kicked of in the manner that would dominate the rest of the month. Transfer Rumours!!!!!

First up, it was Steven Reid. Plagued by several injuries throughout his stay at Blackburn, Steve was finally finding his feet at Championship Club WBA. Steve had found himself playing 5 matches in a 3 week period, pretty much the equivalent of how many matches he has played for Blackburn in the last 4 years! It might be simple to say that Reid's career at Rovers is numbered, so we do wish him all the best, as whilst fit, the Irishman was a strong part of the Blackburn Central Midfield.

Kasper Schmeichel was then linked with a 2 Million Pound move to Rovers. With 48 Goal Keepers on our books, we really do need a 49th, so this one is a definite to look out for.....More realistically, pre-season signing, Ex-Galactico Michel Salgado came out and said how much he was enjoying his time at Blackburn. The Spaniard was proud of his move to Blackburn, and expressed delight at the way the club had progressed over the course of the season, pleased with the development of youth players such as Olsson and Jones. Salgado, not just here for a final pay day, also hoped Blackburn could push on next season and challenge for a European Spot. Morten Gamst Pedersen was once again linked with a move, this time to Olympiakos...

In the first EPL encounter for the month, Blackburn travelled to Pompey, against an outfit confirmed to the cellar of the League, Rovers managed to spurn several chances, with JR being the main culprit. A 0-0 draw was the result, 2 points dropped. Manchester United made the trip to Ewood a few days later, and again, a 0-0 draw was the result. However, our boys stood up to the task, managed to shutout the Manchester Attack, and almost managed to nick a goal through a late chance to Steve Nzonzi. However, a draw it was, with Phil Jones further stamping his authority in central defence, and Vince Grella playing a full 90 minutes!!!

The MGP will he or wont he sign saga was back in the spotlight mid April. His manager, whilst not categorically admitting to anything, said Gamst was happy at Rovers, and his future would be sorted out soon....Convincing words from the bugger.... Another on the fringes was Yildray Basturk. Yet to feature in the Rovers senior line up, Basturk was too be unleashed in the coming weeks, in attempt to prove he is worth a contract for next season.

The fixture V Everton was a game too soon for Basturk, however, Yakubu managed to pounce just in time, a 93rd minute winner to Everton, 3-2. Spectacular goals to Steve Nzonzi and Jason Roberts managed to pull Blackburn back level, but Yakubu, after coming on late in the game, broke the Rovers fans hearts, poking home from a yard or 2 out. The late goal left Sam Allardyce dissapointed, whilst Keith Andrews made a spectacular exit when substituted, exchanging water with a disgruntled fan....Poor Keith...

The latest transfer target was Robert Lewandowsk. The 21 year old Polish Striker was invited to Blackburn on trial, however, this never arose, mainly due to the flight ban across Europe. The Pole was also overpriced, 6 million pounds.... 2 Players on the Rovers books though signalled their intentions, with Lars Jacobsen not happy about the lack of game time, whilst Zurab, a loyal servant to Rovers, pretty much asking for his loan to Reading to be made into a permanent move, as the Georgian International was enjoying regular football in the Championship.

More rumours came out of April. Djibril Cisse was next in line to lead the Rovers front line, but, with a release fee clause of 12 million pounds, the reporters surely had not done their homework. Nzonzi and Phil Jones were in line for a transfer to Arsenal, but Sam jumped immediately to shut that rumour down, signing Jones to a 5 year contract, surely a contract will be on the offering to Nzonzi over the off season.

In the last game for April, Blackburn managed to concede yet another late goal, this time to Wolverhapmton, leaving the Molineux with a 1-1 draw to wrap up a poor April. Basturk was handed a debut, in which he failed to impress, whilst Ryan Nelsen added another goal to the tally, poking in of a Gamst Corner. Ebans Blake equalised late for Wolves, whilst Di Santo almost nicked it late for Rovers, his move with Andrews ending up with his effort crashing against the woodwork...for the thousandth time this season! 1-1 it ended....

In Sad news, Burnley were officially relegated from the English Premier League. The sad part was that we didnt have 6 points in the bag automatically for next season....Farewell Dingles...

Sam Allardyce brought the debate of the 39th EPL match back into the spotlight, claiming the game would be financially better off with the extra match.

The month wrapped up as it should, with another transfer rumour, this time, something achievable! Aruna Dindane, on loan at Portsmouth from French Club Lens, claimed he completed a medical at Blackburn, and the financial details were being hammered to watch...

So that was April, 3 Draws and a Loss, with points against strugglers Pompey and Wolves dropped....

Cheers to a Good May!!!
