Why Did They Bother.....Robbie Fowler!!!

Robert Bernard Fowler, more often known as Robbie, or to some, God, was snapped up after an initial trial by former Liverpool compatriot, Paul Ince, on a free transfer after he rejected a pay as you play contract from Cardiff.

Fowler was snapped up on a 3 month, pay as you play deal, with Paul Ince attempting to revive the career of the former Liverpool Strike Man.

Making his Rovers debut in a League cup victory over Everton, Fowler went on to make 3 league appearances, all as substitutes, and was often laughed at for his lack of, well everything really.

Robbie was not offered a new contract, and now plies his trade at North Queensland Fury, in the A-League, Australia's top flight domestic competition.

Whilst Robbie was not on the most wages, it is fair to say, really Ince, why did we bother! He took the spot that one of our very own youth could of had, even Matty Derbyshire could of had a greater look in, but it just was not to be......

sasman
Great idea mate!!! well done on bringing this back up... any suggestions you got are welcome!!! Robbie Fowler though, good grief!!!
Mikey Delap
I'd forgotten about Robbie Fowler - just goes to show what little impact he made! I suppose it was worth a try - if he had been able to resurrect his career Paul Ince would have been seen as a visionary and gone on to become a Rovers legend!!!
YORK ROVER
He was well past his best when Liverpool took him back for a 2nd time! Everybody knew that - except Ince.... Christian Vieri, anyone???
Wellsy10
Rigters!!!! but hes still not gone yet. a left back who we signed from belgium...his name escapes me
LHrover
Bruno Berner? he was swiss though, actually i dunno lol
sasman
neat little article sas!
the shire
It's true that he was a waste of space when at rovers as he had passed his best a long time before that. However (even if it pains me to criticise an Italian - being of Italian descent myself!) he still looks good business compared to £6.75m for Grabbi. Also if you want to know what happened to Grabbi since he left the almighty Rovers hes notched an impressive 12 career goals since 2004 and currently plays in the Swiss Super League (yes!) for Bellinzona. Credit to Wikipedia for bothering to keep track of him.
fransavarese
Fransavarese, thanks for bringing back painful memories of the the then qouted new messiah lol, Grabbi, what about lorenzo amorouso!
mutts nutts
He retired after we let him go, but came out of retirement to play part-time in the San Marino 2nd tier!
BigNumber5
Talking about why bothers; how about Tony Park's only ever signing Per Pedersen!?

I think you madde a good choice here Sas by using Bloody Fowler as the man to revive this feature.
Walker
Yes but the visuals have come back of the Paul Ince/Robbie Fowler era and that has disturbed me!!!! AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
Mikey Delap
Ah, Paul Ince's transfer record. Robbie Fowler, Vince Grella and Keith Andrews. Amazing. And yes, he did sign Robbo, but I don't think that one out of four is a good record!
