Rovers win a massive 3 points

A header scored by Rudy Gestede meant Rovers took all three points at home to Doncaster on Saturday.

A hard fought game which saw Rovers dominate for periods of time, and also some decent football on Doncaster's behalf towards the end of the match.

Paul Robinson made his league debut for the season as he went back in goal, showing exactly why he deserves a place in the team when pulled off a superb save minutes before full time.

The home side got off to a bright start, with new permanent signings Tom Cairney and Gestede creating chances from the outset.

An early opportunity presented itself to Rovers as in the 8th minute, Tommy Spurr played the ball into Gestede, who set up a shot for Cairney, whose left foot effort went just wide.

Ben Marshall began brightly, firing a cross from the left, but on the receiving end Rhodes headed the ball over the net.

Doncaster made an attack just a few minutes from half time but Husband's shot was effortlessly claimed by Robinson.

Just two minutes later the score line changed as Rhodes sent the ball over to the back post, before Gestede headed it home giving Rovers the lead.

Both teams came out unchanged after the break but Doncaster had revitalised some fighting spirit to battle against Rovers for the second half.

Gestede flicked the ball on to Rhodes in the 60th minute, but his volley was kept out.

Another chance for Rovers arose when Cairney's free kick found Scott Dann, but he was unable to double the advantage as his volley was deflected wide.

Gary Bowyer made his first substitution in the 72nd minute replacing Gestede with David Dunn, before later substituting Cairney for Chris Taylor, and Rhodes for DJ Campbell.

Doncaster began to apply pressure in a desperate attempt to find an equaliser however De Val Fernandez' fired the ball wide of Robbo's posts.

Injury time saw Doncaster win a corner leading to Peterson heading for goal, but against all odds Robbo made an outrageously wonderful save against a ball that was otherwise going straight in.

A massive three points for Rovers sees them rise to 8th place in the table and well within reach of the play off places.
