Blackburn 1 - Manchester United 1

Ewood Park

2 Points Dropped at Ewood

Yes the title says it all. Its not often where a team out playes, dominates and leads against Manchester United for 88 minutes. More on that later.....

Needing a win to keep their slim hopes of European Qualification alive, Blackburn faced the daunting task of Manchester United, who were needing a win to maintain their position at the top of the Barclays Premiership.

Rovers started of the brighter of the two teams, with Roberts being taken out in the box, a penalty opportunity turned down. The first half was a razzdle dazzle performance by the boys in the blue and white. Bentley, Morten, Roque, Roberts, played like superstars, with the strings being pulled by Reid, Emerton and Vogels. The pressure finally paid of in the 25 th minute, with a quick throw in finding its way to Roque Santa Cruz, who netted (with his feet!!!!!!!!!!). Rovers 1-0. Manchester United were lucky to have 10 men on the field when Wayne Rooney lashed out minutes after a disallowed penalty claim. He should of recieved a yellow for diving, which would of meant the rash challenge would of been his second yellow.

1-0 at the break.

Sparky decided to keep the formation and line up, and the pressure continued. Rovers best chance to notch a second fell to Santa Cruz, who placed a shot wide of the goals. Brad Friedel was called into action several times, having to make save after save when Manchester decided to tune up their performance.

However, it just wasnt to be, when in the 88th minute, a Man U corner found its way to Tevez who continued his goal scoring spree for the Red Devils.

Star Player

Brad Friedel

What a superstar, saves them on the ground, either side, saves them in the air either side. Absolute superstar

Today id like to comment on the performance on the team. The lads copped a lot of criticsm after their shocking performance against Liverpool. They could of just folded again, but boy they almost destroyed Man Uniteds title ambitions. Dominating most of the game through some tough defending, by all 4 in the back, the boys in the middle had plenty of time on the ball. Lads up front hunted everything down. And Brad Friedel, do i really have to say anything.

Really dissapointing with that Tevez goal in the dying minutes. We really did deserve to win. It just wasnt to be. We can almost kiss goodbye to Europe now, but, their is still hope....

If ONLY that corner could've been defended as we had previously then all the SUPERB saves from Bradders would've seen us win. Yeah, I think you are right sasman the UEFA Cup is looking like it has gone now, but if we win all three matches then we might still have a chance?!?!

Reid pulling strings? LMAO. Was I the only one that was disappointed with his contribution? he gives away so many needless free kicks. Why Hughes felt that Emo in the middle was better than Dunn.....If I was Dunny, I wouldve been disappointed, very. Otherwise, it was an incredible display, Vogel had his best day since he signed, Warnock was outstanding, as was Nelsen and Samba. I was a little disappointed with Bentley's contribution as I feel he can give more input from out wide rather than through the middle but all in all, you cannot really knock the performance. I do think we have to say though that if it was not for Brad, we wouldve lost 3/4 -1 and we didnt create enough chances to kill the scum off but like I said, cant complain too much.

agreed bom, reid is suspect at right back, gave away too many needless free and looked lost all day. warnock on the other hand was immense, if brad hadnt been as good as he was he was my MOTM. i too was disappointed with bents, he seemed lazy where he was roberts chased evrything bents just seemed to jog round the pitch. must say though i would have taken 1-1 before the game but disappointed with the defending on the corner. and Friedel is a hero

Fantastic performance, dissappointing obviously to concede so late on, but that equaliser was coming for some time! Friedel was world class once again, he will surely go down as the greatest keeper in Blackburn Rovers history. The draw of course has ended our European aspirations for this year especially with Villa thumping Birmingham earlier today. All we can do now is try and finish as high as we can!

Great performance except for Reid and Bents. Reid gave the ball away way too much. Wonder if all the speculation is starting to get to Bents. He did not seem to want to know for the second game running. Also how much better is Samba when he has God next to him. Looks so much more confident and comfortable on the ball. Far better displays from him recently
