Blackburn 4 - Bolton 1

Ewood Park

Attendance: 23000

Blackburn 4 Bolton 1

After a length break, Blackburn were back in action against a Bolton Wanderers outfit fighting there way out of the relegation zone. In what was always going to be a physical encounter, Sparky chose to bring the suspended players straight back into the line up, with Samba, Dunny and Gamst returning to action.

Rovers got of to a bright start, with Benni Mac striking a sweet half volley, only to be tipped away by the Bolton Custodian. Brad Friedel was called into action soon after, parrying away a 6 yard volley from everybodies favourite player, Mr ElHadji Diouf.

Fortune appeared to favour our Rovers when midway into the first half, David Dunn was brought down in the box. Benni Mac, steppd up, Benni Mac Scored. Santa Cruz had half a chance to double the lead, however his header just before the break scraped wide of the post.

The second half started of in a flurry, with Bolton making a change up front. This paid immediate dividends, Kevin Davies latching on to a loose ball in the box, equalising for Bolton. They continued to maintain the pressure, until, against the run of play, Blackburn countered. Rovers surged up the field, a through ball placed up front, and once again, the Bolton Defender came in with a sloppy tackle, another penalty to Rovers. Benni Mac stepped up again and struck this ball with more conviction, 2-1 Rovers. From here on in, Blackburn took control, Dunny made a blistering run on the left flank, whipping in a cross which Bentley headered in from a tight angle.

The Axe made his way onto the field for Dunny, whilst Robbo was brought on for Benni Mac, who recieved a standing obvation. Robbo made an immediate impact, holding up the ball then sending in a deep cross, which Morten Gamst Pederson blasted into the back of the net.

4-1 it finished to Rovers.

Star Player

David Dunn: Whilst the official man of the match award was given to Bentley, I believe Dunny took control of the game in the middle of the park. He made vital tackles, spread the ball around and provided some darting runs.

Player Ratings

Brad Friedel 8

Solid as always with plenty of vital saves

Stephen Warnock 7

Did well, caught out for the goal, however was kept on his toes all game

Brett Emerton 7

A silent one for Brett, but did what he had to do

Christopher Samba 6.5

Looked slightly off guard in patches, however no real flaws

Zurab 7.5

Reliable in the back, doing a great job

David Bentley 8

Great game by Bents. Was always a threat down the flank.

David Dunn 9

Fantastic, looked hungry, kept his cool, real team leader. A goal would be nice for him

Steven Reid 7

Silent game for Reidy, distrubuted well and did a lot of the cleaning up in the middle

Morten Gamst Pederson 8

Where has this guy been all season. Fantastic, took on the defence, whipped in crosses, and scored a Morten Special

Benni Mac 8.5

Worked extremely hard all game. Dropped back into defence, held the front line, and buried two penalties when the pressure was on

Roque Santa Cruz 6.5

Quiet game for the big guy. Would like to see him getting more of the ball

Aaron Mokoena

Little Impact

Jason Roberts

Did well when he came on. held the ball up and set up Gamst

Sasmans Thoughts

Great to see Rovers winning by more then one goal. Also impressive to see Benni Mac as well as Gamst on the score sheet. Hopefully these two continue to improve on their game. Really happy with Dunn's performance today.

Great result for the lads, a real confidence booster. Hopefully it sets a platform for the rest of the season

Great report sasman. Yes it was a great game and Benni was really terrific - he really fought for it. Same goes for Gamst. I agree with most of your ratings of the players - but I do think you are to kind to Samba. I thought he was really bad and his mistakes - which I think were quite significant - could have cost us a couple of goals...ecspecially the one where he headed the ball straight to the attacker when he wasnt even under pressure. But a great game by the rest of the lads!!

Hopefully will kick start pedersen off for the rest of the season, come straight wins now till the end Uefa cup here we come.

Yeah the best thing about this, other than the obvious three points is the great displays from Dunny (a deserved mom I agree sas), Benni and Gamst, and particularly pleasing to see both of the latter score. Benni moves onto 11 goals for the season, let's hope there are a few more before the season finishes.

Terrific result, perfect start to run-in, delighted for Pedersen in particular. Hopefully the goal will spark him into life for the remainder of the season. Dunny supposedly had a great game and was involved in almost everything. Looking forward to seeing the highlights later on.

Good work Sas, what was I saying the other day dudes, this HAD to be a game we must win to start a run of matches that we COULD win. February ended well, now we MUST make March a Month to remember!!!

Good work sas, have just got back from the game. One minor correction matey, the Peter Jackson MOM award went to Dave Dunn. He had a good game as did Benni Mac as well, the hunger has returned. Keep an eye out on MOTD for Gamst's goal celebration.. he hugged EVERYONE!!! The best player on the pitch today was... and I cant believe I am saying this... Morten Gamst Pedersen.
MikeyGamst
u sure mikey, cause the commentators were saying that bentley just picked up another man of the match award, then they blabbed on how long is he gonna stay at rovers....but then again, u wwere there. As for Samba, yea he let the one on one through, but i thought he was pretty solid. Gotta remember lads, i wrote this up at 4.30 am lol
sasman
Now that is dedication to the fight Sas!!!
Hughes Da Man
Dunny was definitely the Peter Jackson MOM.

mate im telling you, i guarantee you will not find a more dedicated fan then myself in australia, maybe even further lol

Good write up Sas mate, kudos to you and the stupid o'clock time! Good result too, and an performance from Gamst and McGoalmachine. Could it have been any better against the *****y wanderers? LOL
BomBom
It's good to see Gamst and McCarthy scoring. Both needed that to get the confidence level up. What was also good to see was Pederson celebrating with the fans, not just his team-mates. Hands up those who remember Lucash Neill running the entire length of the pitch just to mock his own supporters. I can only hope that this kick starts his seasons. Normally he does score a lot of goals in the latter stages of the season. I wasn't confident of a win prior to kick-off, bearing in mind that a home team hadn't won this fixture in 13 attempts. I was expecting a 0-0, as most people were, I am sure. I left Ewood very happy.
