Blackburn Rovers vs. MyPa-47

Ewood Park

Thursday 30th April 2007

20:05, Live on five

Rovers .vs. MyPa

Rovers are just 90 minutes away from a place in the UEFA Cup proper as Finnish side MyPa travel to Ewood Park looking to provide a chock and overturn Rovers' 1-0 First leg lead. Rovers will be virtual overwhelming favourites to complete the job from the First leg, as Roque Santa Cruz scored the deceive goal early on in Finland.

Most people will expect Rovers to win this comfortably, and the chances are they will but to write off the Finnish outfit who have year in year out European experience could be foolish, and shows a complete lack of respect.

Vital Quotes:

Mark Hughes on complacency": "We cannot afford to be complacent - it is only one goal and it only takes one opportunity to get back on level terms.
"So we have got to be professional and get the job done.
"The Uefa Cup is a competition we want to do well in. We'll go into the game with the right team and mentality.
"

Blackburn Rovers Team News:

Rovers will have a near strength squad to select from, ideally Mark Hughes would have liked to rest some players, but with such a slender lead no chances can be taken. Ryan Nelsen returns after a domestic suspension and Tugay is pushing for a starting place.

Rovers from - Friedel, Enckelman, Emerton, Samba, Nelsen, Ooijer, Warnock, Bentley, Dunn, Savage, Pedersen, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Derbyshire, Roberts, Tugay, Mokoena, Rigters, Khizanishvili, Gallagher.

Player to watch: Roque Santa Cruz

The Paraguayan International has started like a man possessed proving any doubters well and truly wrong and in theory he can only get better. He will no doubt be looking for more goals, and I think he will get them.

MyPa-47 Team News:

As my colleague roversman found when previewing the First leg, finding team news on MyPa is proving mighty difficult, so I am unable to produce any.

Player to watch: Janne Korhonen

The MyPa Goalkeeper did what he had to in the First leg well to keep Rovers at bay, and you would expect him to be a busy man at Ewood Park on Thursday, so he will have to be at his very best.

Match Facts & Stats

Rovers are unbeaten in 12 matches stretching back to last season, so they will be hoping to make it a lucky 13th.

Match Prediction:

Rovers should have too much for MyPa, but overconfidence can often lead to a slip up, but this will not happen in this match. Depending on how much Rovers want the match (and they will want it bad because the UEFA Cup proper awaits) they could win comfortably, and they quite possibly will, I would go for a 3-0, maybe 4-0 victory. But the main thing is to ensure that they get through this game with no injuries.

Next Fixtures:

Manchester City at Ewood Park on Sunday.

It could eventually be an easy game (not that I am expecting this) but Rovers will not go into thinking like this. However, I still think it will be a 3-0, maybe 4-0 Rovers win. UEFA Cup proper is on it's way, we can look forward to Friday's draw (nearly!!!)

I think a strong start is necessary to put any doubts to bed early on. The longer we go without scoring, I think we may see some nerves creep in. Oh and thanks dude for helping out with this.

I'm hoping for a comfortable 2-0. An early goal, and one late on. It won't be entertaining, but it will be efficient. That is one reason I declined to purchase a ticket for tonights game, also financial reasons. It's not just the ticket, it's the pie at the game (a ridiculous amount for a pie), a drink pre/post game, a programme (being a european game, normally i wouldn't bother...), etc. I would presume it is on TV somewhere, hopefully terrestrial. Does anyone know if it is on TV?

Mate, I'd give my right arm to come to any game, but it's a little far from Dubai...Just how much is a pie?
Desert Kiwi
£2.20 for a pie! And it's not a good pie, needs more salt in the pastry. Last seasons were nice, and 10p cheaper! Maybe, I do take games for granted. You never know which'll be your last game. Anywhoo, we are on Five tonight, 7.55pm programme starts.

Yer easy win to strong at Ewood hopfully some of the youngters will get a run out.

Eat before the game then¬! This'll be my first time at Ewood this season as I'm back from abroad for a visit. Very excited, and hopefully see a good few goals. Then role on City on Sunday!
martinr
I watched the Everton game and was hugely impressed you guys were awsome definatley dropped 2 points on Saturday yous will sail through.
Pking
I would eat before the game, but then I wouldn't have my 'lucky pie' prior to the game, and we would loss. The things I go through for my beloved team!
Decimus Poole
You have to go through these pre-match rituals don't you dude, it'll be bad luck if you didn't. It's a dirty job, but someone's got to eat all the pies lol!
Yeah, channel 5 have the game, and good on them for picking it up. They may only give a 10 minute start before the game (probably with at least two add break!) but at least they have. I'll Sky plus it and watch it after woorl. Just wait, Rovers will keep advancing then the other channels will come calling (as per usual!)

Didn't Five have the qualifying games last season? I'm sure I remember watching Newcastle on there at silly hours of the day. I'm guessing they're thinking/hoping that most clubs people are interested in will be knocked out prior to the 'advanced' stages, so interest will whittle away. Not this season five, not this season. I can see, should we get a nice draw, at least 1/4 final stages. I would hope Sparky pushes for good European run. This will attract the eye of more world footballing stars, showing us to be a progressive club. Yes, if I stop eating pies, we will lose. I tell my missis it's for the cause, and she should eat a pie around 2.45pm on a Saturday too. She has yet to eat a pie for the cause. Maybe, that a pre-match ritual. If she actually has a pie, we might lose...oh dear...

i met the mypa47 manager last night at the hotel were i work, he was in the bar until 1230, dont think he was drinking though. he seemed very relaxed, i dont think they think they can win, but are here more for the experience of it and to enjoy it. though i maybe over reading him. should be an easy victory if we go it to it the right way!! i believe it is on channel 5 tonight according to several people i know!!!
