Williams: Intertoto Cup If Needed

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has confirmed that Rovers HAVE applied to take place in the Intertoto Cup again this summer if required.

Rovers managed to take part in the Intertoto Cup last summer despite finishing below both Reading and Portsmouth, as these two declined the opportunity. The UEFA Cup was eventually reached but we fell at the first hurdle to Larissa. However, despite feeling that it will not be needed at the end of the current season Williams has admitted that Rovers have put themselves forward again to take part in the European Qualifying Tournament if required.

Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We have applied for the Intertoto Cup.

We did it last year and we've never regretted it.

"However, we would like to think we can qualify for the Uefa Cup as of right."

It makes sense for us to do this again, HOWEVER, I would hope that we wouldn't need to take this route this time round, but IT IS better to be safe than sorry.

I'd rather avoid them dude, they are a VERY danerous outfit lol!
In all seriousness though, I do hope that we won't need it this summer, but it will be a battle this season so it's the right thing to do (at least applying.)

Pleased that the club have decided to apply for the Intertoto. No harm in having a backup if we narrowly miss out on the UEFA Cup spots. I'm surprised that more clubs don't do it i.e Portsmouth & Reading last year.

Well worth a shot as having this option could make the difference but I am with you guys in that it certainly isnt the preffered option.
