Super Emerton Stars For Aussies

Super Emerton Stars For Aussies

In what was boasted as a tricky encounter, Australia Faced Qatar in the first game of the Group Stages for Qualification for the 2010 World Cup.

With Qatar featuring more nationalized players then local lads, this appeared to be a challenging encounter for the Aussies who were missing Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Vinnie Grella.

However, they appeared not to be missed, with Brett Emerton, Mark Bresciano, Timmy Cahill and Judas Neill stepping up and leading the Aussies. Australia took the early lead, with Brett Emerton skipping down the right flank, whipping in a delightful cross to Joshua Kennedy, who stood above both Qatari defenders, placing a looping header into the back of the net.

With the early goal, the Aussies cranked up the pressure, Brett Emerton racing up and down the flank. Timmy Cahill headed home from a corner, whilst Mark Bresciano blasted the third after some fantastic build up.

The score remained the same in the second half, with Brett Emerton delighting the crowd with a superb display.

Sasmans Thoughts

More importantly for Rovers, Emo came through unscathed. With Samba and Nelson out of action, and Ooijer with a shaky injury, Im Sure Sparky would be up watching this game with concern. Hopefully he picked up on a delightful performance from Defensive Midfielder, Jason Culina, who comes of contract in 6 months.

Plenty of talent down under lads, Sign em up

Absolute blinder, all i have to say really, Emerton played like Bentley at his best, darting runs, whipped in crosses, tracked back and defended. He really does like his right wing back role...too bad it doesnt fit our Rovers formation

Always said that Wing back is his ideal position but he is improving as an attacking RB to be fair to him!

Nice one sasman! watched the game and thought like you that Culina played well, but then so did the usual suspect Bres and Cahill, of interest was the performance (for me) of Kennedy, thought he had a good game and with a few more internationals he could be a goer, having just moved clubs and getting regular games helps. Sad to see Moore go. was it just me (and half the people in the bar last night) but did it look to you like Mcdonald was carrying a bit of insulation to cope with those Glasgow winters? :) played well though and am keen to see more of him... Emo was solid and didnt hoof it over peoples heads too often which was great. good assist and all. Although I must say that he and the rest of them looked shagged after half time and I heard Carney aftr the game say they were all jet lagged and knew they would be buggered late on. I wonder whether Pim will try and get them back more than 48 hours before the game next time. So begins the club V country debate...again

McDonald sure is one nuggetty b@stard - but a terrific, unselfish player who would be an asset to any premierleague side. Emerton is all heart in the green and gold - surely the club would benefit from playing him in the same role he fills for Aus. It always surprises me that Cahill isn't linked with transfer talks to The Utds or @rses...he is twice the player Kewell is and like Emerton, all heart...

Hes not seen as "fashionable" by the bigger teams, whic IMO boggles the mind as he is effective as a younger paul scholes, arrives late into the box, scores important goals and generall contributes well. It does help when you have a player like Arteta next to him mind!

Cahill scores wherever he goes though (4 goals in his last 4 matches for AUS i think) and the Scholes comparison is a good one i think.
