Derbyshire Absence Explained

Matt Derbyshire's agent has moved to clear up speculation over the omission of the Blackburn forward from the latest England Under-21 squad.

There were reports that Derbyshire had been dropped by Stuart Pearce when his name was not included in the party for next week's European Champonship qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

But Derbyshire's agent has explained that his client had personally asked not to be included as his girlfriend is due to give birth very soon.

Matt's agent, Gary Porter, told skysports.com: 'Matt has spoken to Stuart Pearce and explained the situation to him.

'He's asked not to be included as he wants to be with his girlfriend who is due to give birth in the next few days.

'Stuart fully understands the situation and agreed to leave him out on this occasion.'

Derbyshire has become an integral member of the Under-21 set-up and has also been in good form for Rovers this season when given a chance, scoring five goals for Mark Hughes' men.

Mikey's Thoughts

I knew there had to be a reason, thought something was up when the U-21 squad was announced and he wasn't in there...

Thank God, Hughes Da Man would of been mortified

Does this childs birth make HDM a grandaddy? Hes long said that Derbs was "his baby!" Just a passing thought LOL
BomBom
Good point that Bommy... How does it feel HDM? lol
MikeyGamst
We should get some champers for the big man/old man! I hope Derbs isn't too focused on his missus today so he can bang a goal or two in.
roversman
lol congrats, we have a granddad on thea team lol. How bout derbs score 2 goals, one for the missus and one for the baby
sasman
handled that better than bents eh :) Let's just hope matty isn't doing a Steven Ireland!!
Bents4eng
I think Bents is having the last laugh though guys.. dont you?
MikeyGamst
Bents is def having the last laugh, he deserves his spot, and the break was worth it
sasman
lets just hope he starts over short-man shaun
Bents4eng
i think it all depends on what strikers he is going to use, if ya use bigger strikers, then bents is the way to go, if they use the pacy strikers, im sure swp will get the nod
sasman
I'm very proud of my boy Derbs lol
sasman - Dude I think that is where you are wrong, even with the pacy striker Bents' craft and ability to pick out the killer pass would be better used wouldn't it?!?! Shaun Wright-Phillips is often got at for his delivery, which would have to be spot on, and Bents' is.
Hughes Da Man
I am getting more confident that Bents will start on Wed... Ive just got one of those feelings. Bents is a match winner and England dont have enough of those.
