Wright: Capello Should Pick Derbs

Former England International (and Arsenal legend) Ian Wright has said that Fabio Capello SHOULD pick players like Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire in his first England squad.

Capello will announce his first England squad since taking over from Steve McClaren on Saturday and Wright is hoping that he will make a few surprise announcements with this, that would freshen things up for England, something that Wright feels he will do, as he is not afraid to shake things up. One such inclusion he feels should be Derbyshire.

Wright wrote in his column in the Sun: "Like me, he came into the game from non-league and, while he's not made too many starts this season, I like the look of him.

"He's played for the Under-21s and done well. I think he's one of those players who will develop quickly if he's given a few call-ups to the international side, where he can learn from people like Michael Owen. At this stage, Capello will be looking at the attitude of the younger players he brings in, whether it's Derbyshire, 21, or someone else, and they will have to seize this fantastic opportunity
."

It would be superb if Derbs were to be named in this England squad, hopefully Capello thinks along the same lines as Wrighty?!?!

Well said Wrighty!!!
Derbs WILL one day play for the senior England side I have NO doubt at all about this, if it came now that would be superb but I'm not sure it will just yet?
However, I do feel that he will be part of the England squad at the next World Cup Finals.

uuuuummmmmmm derbs for england!? this would be awesome, and he definately is good enough, better than bent, and nugent who have recently been whacked in there... why not derbs. good shout wrighty! also, has anyone heard the rumours that capello phoned hughesy asking about the availability of dunn at international level for england?? my uncle working for the times sport section told me about this!!

This is an interesting trail of thought and Derbs should be considered. However, I would like to see him represent Rovers a little more (and score penalties) before he makes the step up. whitey_82003, as for Dunn i think that is a very far-fetched rumour. I cannot see that materialising!
roversman
whitey_82003, this is a little cheeky but do you think your uncle would be at all forthcoming with some advice for an aspiring young journalist? If so can you let me know via email at jimsun022002@yahoo.co.uk Cheers

I love derbs, dont get me wrong, this guy is a superstar in the making, but lads, we gotta be realistic. Derbs cant secure a first team spot, let along a England Call up. There are a few strikers in front of him lads, and personally, i think that Agbonlahor from Villa is in front of Derbs if there looking for a young star

Would be abosolutely amazing, shame about his penalty miss though in front of capello, doubt this will happen until a few seasons have passed!!

I think he needs to play for Rovers a bit more regularly first but he will one day of that i am sure. Dunny is not a bad shout when you think about it.... best English player on the pitch on Sat in front of Capello.

As Wrighty says though he could probably benefit form being in this squad, it's only a friendly after all so what harm could it do?!?!
Hughes Da Man
None whatsoever HDM.
