'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Flynn Basically Thanks Kevin Keegan

New Blackburn Rovers signing Johnny Flynn has Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan to thank for his move to Ewood Park.

Had Rovers manager Mark Hughes left Ewood for St James' Park (as had been mooted) before Keegan returned to Newcastle his hopes of a dream move to Rovers could have been scuppered. From his (and our) point of view thankfully this didn't happen and the 18-year-old was able to complete his undisclosed transfer to Rovers on Monday, signing a three-year contract much to his delight.

Flynn told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I'm glad everything is finally sorted out.

"I know everything has happened very quickly for me in the last few months but I felt it was dragging on a wee bit.

"There was talk that Mark Hughes might have moved from Blackburn to Newcastle, which would have left things up in the air for me so I'm relieved everything has worked out
."

The Irish defender sees this as a great chance, and despite limited football so far in his career (he only made his Ballymena debut in October 2007) he is looking to make an impact.

He added: "It's a great opportunity for me and one that I'm really looking forward to."

We are ALL grateful that Kevin Keegan returned to Newcastle so we didn't lose Sparky, had he not have done so and Sparky had gone then the chances of Flynn signing might not have happened?!?!
Things worked out for the better, and he signed so now if he gets a chance he must take it.

An aside from your article HDM - do we know if Hughes or Rovers was even contacted about the Toon job?
