Rovers Trial Another Striker

Dave Mooney, a former Longford striker was set to sign for Cork City but that this could be ruined by "shock" interest from Blackburn Rovers.

Setantasports.com have exclusively revealed that the 23-year-old (who finished as last season's Eircom League of Ireland top goalscorer) is on trial with Rovers, and if Rovers manager Mark Hughes is impressed he could offer the striker a contract at Ewood Park.

This is a surprise, especially after the Valeri deal is basically dead, maybe this why, however it would be a surprise if it cooled because of interest in Mooney?!?!
Sparky has nothing to lose, if he likes what he sees he will offer him a contract, the same applies to Mooney, he also has nothing to lose.

We sure do like to raid the most random of places, Belgium ( Samba), USA (Nelsen) and now Ireland, Comon Rovers send the scouts down under, plenty of talent over here.....prob too hard to get a work permit though

MOONEY? ah he is okay, good in the league of ireland but i would have serious reservations as to him handling the step up in quality very few manage this, most fail miserably! although what should be mentioned is the fact he was top scorer in the team that finished last and got relegated!

the only thing id say to that clint is that kevin doyle went to readong when they were in the championship so the step up was not as severe but he did still look good in the PL when he played so its not impossible

Samba was from Germany wasnt he??? Ive never heard of this Mooney guy but it wouldnt be the first time we have seen a gem appear from nowhere!!! u seen this Mooney play Durks?

yeah saw him first hand when longford played my own team, he is decent enough but i would have doubts about how he would manage at a premier league club, the standard between the leagues is astranomical
