Roberts: I Just Want To Play

Roberts: I Just Want To Play

Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts came off the bench to score the winning goal against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, and all he wants to do is play football.

Roberts looked as if he might have played his last match for Rovers, but he came off the bench to score the winning goal in our 2-1 win over Bolton on Sunday. It is still more than possible that he could still leave this month but he hopes that his goal will at least put pressure on manager mark Hughes to give him a few matches, as all he wants to do is play.

Roberts told Sky Sports: "It's obviously been disappointing not to play many games - but I think today I showed a little bit what I can do.

"It's been frustrating with injuries since I came to this club. But I think I'm ready to play; I've been ready for a while now and I want to put pressure on the manager and show people what I can do.

"It's not really in my hands at the moment. I just want to play football
."

Hughes appreciates his frustration, and praised him but it does appear that he sees him more as a player to use from the bench, something that will not please Roberts as this is not something that he wants.

Hughes said: "Obviously Jason has been frustrated with the lack of opportunities and I think that is obviously the situation that we are in but there is no doubting his ability, his ability to make impact coming off the bench as he did.

"He is a very powerful guy, once he gets on the half-turn then it is very difficult to draw him back because he has got power, he has got pace and it was a great finish
."

JR came on and did a job, but will this be his last goal for Rovers?!?!
I can't see the situation changing enough for him to stay, but you never know. If he stays for the remainder of the season I would expect him to leave in the summer.

I still disappointed in Roberts if wot we've read in the papers and on line are true! Demanding a transfer cos he's not playing, its childish!! As he was out injured for ages he could not expect to walk straight back into the team. I do though like the way he plays and wot he would bring to the club, I was one of those on here that always stuck up for his talent but I kinda wouldnt be to upset if he left, ability or not

If Hughes wants to keep him he might have to rotate Benni and JR. He's playing well, gives us a different dimension and scores! We need to keep him!

To be fair though Clint, he hasn't moaned to the media, he's alwyas come on and played when asked to. He sought out Hughes and asked for a transfer because he wants to play for our team but isn't. At least he's not doing a Berbatov and having to be told to warm up over three times, or even a Benni and hinting to other clubs that he wants a move.

Dont agree with that will it ever happen... Roberts is a class act, he wants to play and if he plays anything like he did on Sunday for the rest of the season I say start him every week as he was the dogs dangly bits.

Oh im not saying that Roberts has went to the media crying about the club and all that but I think its a bit rich for any player who was out for as long as he was to expect to walk back into the team straight away, whether he just went to Hughes or the press its just not rite to basically try and blackmail ur way into the team by acting like a kid who hasnt/isnt getting his way, its just the way I see it mate, I like Roberts as a striker but just like that kind of attitude a lot of footballers seem to develop
