Sunderland Need To Up Savage Offer

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage is looking like he will be leaving Ewood Park, but manager Mark Hughes has revealed that the offer received from Sunderland is not good enough.

This offer (how much I couldn't say) from Sunderland has been rejected, and Hughes and Rovers chairman John Williams are holding out for more, something along the lines of £2 million. If this amount isn't received he will not be sold. Rovers DON'T need to sell Savage, so unless the deal is right for us he will go nowhere.

Hughes told Setanta Sports: "There has been some contact between our chairman John Williams and Sunderland but my understanding is that the offer is way below the value we place on Robbie.

"If they meet our valuation, I`ll look at it, but I won`t allow players to leave if I think that it will weaken us.

"We are about to lose Aaron Mokoena to the African Cup of Nations later this week for the best part of a month, so anything that happens in terms of players leaving will be dictated by me.

"But we are always looking at our options and if things present themselves, we will look at it
."

We are in the driving seat, so we either get an offer that WE deem acceptable or he stays, it is that simple.
It does look like he will leave though as he doesn't seem to be lacking in potential suitors.

We should hold out for more so that a suitable replacement can be brought in. We have to be care****l though not to underscore ourselves in terms of midfield.

I think Savage is a good member of the team but £2.5m for a player with his injury record of late and him being 33 is quite a good return but he cant be sold until we have a replacement! Which leads me to believe that there may be one, the club usually distance themselves from transfer talk
Clint
the fee quoted is too much for someone who is a spent force at top level!
merlin
That it may be Merlin but if we can get fair enough, we dont have to sell him and Sunderland need to buy! I think he will go for around £1.3/£1.4m personally but hey we can try and get £2m and why not?! Sunderland have the money lol
Clint
£2 million is pocket change in this day and age. Sav isn't exactly a spent force though just yet merlin, he ISN'T the player he was but can and will still do a job. He will leave though I feel.
Hughes Da Man
Its sad to say but I agree with Hughes that its seems about time that Robbie leaves, he's the wrong side of 30, a problem we have with our midfield and it realeases money to address this, buying in new younger talent, we could sell Savage to Derby and get Barnes plus a littles money on top in exchange?!?
Clint
I have made my piece with this happening even though at first I was against it. I think we are best off selling him now. Isnt this Lance Davids guy suppose to be a direct replacement?
