Bentley Out To Impress Capello

Bentley Out To Impress Capello

Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley has his sights on impressing new England manager Fabio Capello and aims to prove that the David Beckham era really is over.

Beckham has been superb for England over the years and although he has the utmost respect for him Bentley (and others of course) believes that it is time for him to be moved on (after he gets his 100th cap) and he is the man to do it.

Bentley told The Sun: "I really admire David for everything he's done in football but I want to be breathing down his neck.

"I believe I should be in the England team instead of him. Any footballer has to think like that
."

Bents admits that Capello probably doesn't even know who he is but he has vowed to make him sit up and take notice as he wants the right-sided midfield spot in the England International side to himself, so he not only wants to dislodge Beckham but the other potential suitors for that roll too.

He also said: "I don't think Capello knows who I am but he will do - I will make sure of that.

"It's time for me to perform. I'm confident enough I will force my way into the team. It's my job to stop David Beckham. That has to be my aim and I don't think David would argue with that.

"Don't get me wrong, I will be delighted for him if he gets the 100 because he's a top bloke and a great player. If he does reach the 100, I hope he gets it by coming on for me after I've had a stormer
."

Bents has been in superb form over the past year or so, and fully deserves a run in the England side, some people still CAN'T get passed the England Under-21 thing (which all along I have said I've seen both sides, but it WASN'T the "snub" on England that so many people seem to think it was) but it is quality that we want in the side and there are not many better than Bents.

Bents is EASILY good enough, hopefully a change in manager for England can see the new man appreciate this and the chance he deserves will come, but I do hope that Beckham can get his 100th cap as he does deserve that for all that he has given the English game.

England really do have a load of right-wing talent. Becks, Bents, Lennon, SWP and our own Pennant. It'll be hard for any of those players to claim a regular spot on the right.

It's a shame the same can't be said for the left-wing. Joe COle's good but the doesn't always look natural on the left. Downing, well, the less said about him, the better.

I think both SWP and Lennon aren't really international standard... maybe they could be subs when we need to try something different (read faster). Both are fast (therefore a nightmare for defenders), but their final ball in is usually shocking. Pennant has potential, but then being at the pool he seems to rarely play (like Crouch and Bridge) which I think is a major downer if you want an international standard player. Bents def has a good chance with Capello and I can't imagine the u21s thing will even register on his radar

I think you're wrong about Pennant. He played the most matches for us last season, out of all our players. Currently, he's got a broken leg so he obviously isn't playing.

Bents4eng - Those dudes have what Bents doesn't don't they pace. If he only had their pace to, he would be almost unplayable wouldn't he as his delivery is second to none.
