Rovers In Talks On New Zurab Deal

Blackburn Rovers have opened talks with Zurab Khizanishvili in the hope of getting him to sign a new contract at Ewood Park.

The Georgian International has barely played any first team football for Rovers this season and has often struggled to make the matchday squad let along the starting XI, yet despite this Rovers manager Mark Hughes has explained the situation to him and has assured him that he does have a future with the club and as such they would like to extend his contract.

Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "We talked to Zurab and obviously he hasn't had as much football this year as he would have liked, so he was a little bit concerned about that.

"But I think we reassured him that we view his future here and he's a player that I've got a lot of time for. I think he's got qualities that we'll need and we'll use.

"We've only just had preliminary talks with Zurab and his advisers, but I would like to think that he would be here for some time in the future
."

Khizanishvili still have 18-months to run on his current contract, but the fact that Rovers are so keen to extend his stay does suggest that he will have an important role to play in the near future.

Hopefully these talks can result in the Monk staying longer as I personally think that he is a VERY good defender, who has been more than a little unlucky hardly feature this season thus far.

I think he might start to feature with Ooijer copping a injury

I've always like him. The fact I can't say (normally pronounced kisssssssssvilli) or spell his last name after a couple of seasons, doesn't matter...

He can play at right-back or in central defence, which makes him a commodity well worth keeping. I think we'll start seeing mroe of him as the season goes on.

Decimus Poole - Nor can I dude, that why I usually say Zurab, or better still the Monk lol!

I rate this bloke highly and want to see him feature a little mroe in the coming weeks. I really hope he signs a new deal.

I guess he can always add depth
sasman
he's a good player and has been a bit unlucky. he might be thinkin about trying to find first team football though, as he's more of a back up for the first team.

Good hes signing on, but shouldnt be more interested on re-newing Ooijer's contract?
adrianbrfc
maybe he should have played right-back and emerton right wing against west ham...still no use crying over spilt milk!
FreidelNo.1
get him signed up and get him playing a few more games he is a decent player!

adrianbrfc - The monk is almost a decade younger than Ooijer though isn't he. I'm still not convinced that Ooijer will stay, he wants (and deserves) regular football and I'm not sure he can get that here next season?!?!
