Roberts Commits Future To Rovers

Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts has played down recent newspaper reports that have said Paul Jewell wants to be reunited with him at his new club Derby County.

Roberts knows that there is competition for places at Ewood Park now, and he has to battle with Benni McCarthy, Roque Santa Cruz, Matt Derbyshire and Maceo Rigters (even though he doesn't feature that often) for a starting place but doesn't want to leave, as he sees this as a healthy thing and wont let this work against him, so he will used this as a positive thing as he wants to remain a part of what promises to be another successful season at Ewood Park.

Roberts said: "We've got a lot of talent in the squad, not only up front but in all different positions.

"There's competition for places everywhere, and if you start to look at that and become negative, you're going to have a real problem.

"I think the best way of dealing with it is to remain focused and try to earn a chance to impress
."

Not everyone is keen on JR, but he has PLENTY to offer Rovers and I would be sad to see him leave, but don't think he will anyway.

Good positive words from a man slowly changing my opinion of him. I just wish he could finish better.
roversman
At least he's changing your opinion dude, some others seem unwilling to give him even the slightest break.
Hughes Da Man
Glad he has said this... I think he should start against the ham

A great player for us. Hope he stays until he's 33+
IsraeliRover
He can stay as long as he wants as far as I'm concerned!!!

Here's a thought...I thought JR was playing outta his skin to impress other teams in the transfer window. Maybe he is playing outta his skin for a place in the starting line-up, and it's McCarthy that's going in the transfer window...? I'm sure that idea will get boo'ed most/everyone on here...It's not that I wish that, it's just a thought...
Decimus Poole
It could be the case dude, but I've ALWAYS maintained that JR is the player that we are now seeing (and in all fairness we HAVE seen glimpses of that between his injuries.)
He's a big part of the future plans for Rovers I'm sure, and the best is yet to come.
Hughes Da Man
Roberts has been unlucky with the timings of his injuries. HWhen he got a run in the team he started scoring then got injured. Now he's back and playing better than before - I hope he continues and then the goals will start flowing!

As for McCarthy, I can't see Hughes letting him go, especially as we want Euro footie next season

When we got JR from Wigan, I asked a Wigan fan what he was like. She said he was quick, powerful and a little greedy. I have not seen any of this from him, until now. I can only presume he is now back to full fitness and firing on all cylinders. A little more composure in front of goal, and the goals will start flowing. How long is left on McCarthy's contract?
Decimus Poole
thought we saw a glimse of the best of roberts towards the end of last season when he started scoring, but injuries certanly have hindered him. he's looked good over the last couple of games at holding the ball up. i'd rather he stayed than left.

Decimus Poole - I've seen glimpses of the quick and powerful, but not really the greedy, but as a striker you would expect that. We've still got plenty to come from JR, I feel a goal coming on against the Hammered!!!
Hughes Da Man
He'll be back to his best and scoring goals, then giving Hughes a selection nightmare!
