Benni's Injury Not Serious

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has quickly spoken on Benni McCarthy's injury, saying that it is not serious. However, he is doubtful for Wednesday.

McCarthy was forced off after only eight minutes of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Fulham with a knee injury. Initial fears were that it could be quite serious but Hughes has quickly dispelled this, but it is unlikely that he will be available for Wednesday Evening's Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Ewood Park.

Hughes told the Lancashire Telegraph: "Benni's got a bang and a gash just below the knee and it's obviously very painful at the moment.

"There's no ligament damage, thankfully, it's just a really sore injury and we are hopeful he will be okay for selection for Wednesday.

"But I have to say at this point he's probably doubtful for that

Should McCarthy miss out it would be a blow but the return of Jason Roberts, and him coming through eighty plus minutes was a plus point so both Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz will definitely be available.

Another plus point was the fact that Steven Reid got on for the final minute, plus injury time on Sunday.

It's a blow to have Benni miss out against Villa (assuming he will) but he should be back for the weekend. JR played well when he came on so a start alongside Santa Cruz could be interesting.
What a bonus it was to see Reidy get on for a few minutes though!!!

I wouldnt play him on Wed we risk injuring him further. JR had a very good game as I suspected and with Santa back we can wait for the weekend for Benni.

As JRs biggest critic on V BLackburn, il admit he played well, having a vital role in both goals. I really do he can make these sort of performances regularly, but i do dobut it

Have to agree - Roberts was excellent yesterday - you would never have thought that he had been out for a long time.

I too, sasman, isn't Roberts greatest fan. However, he did work hard, and was vital for both goals. He looked good running with the ball, and powerful. I do hope he can keep it up. I also have NOT voted for Ooijer for MOTM...However, not sure how anyone can vote for Reid as MOTM, although good to see him back in a Rovers shirt and football boots on his feet, and them boots on the pitch...

I thought Ooijer had a decent game and Gamst could have/should have scored - 0% is a little harsh!

Not a Roberts fan either but credit where credit is due, he was very good yesterday. Hope Benni is back for Wednesday though. Delighted to see Reid back. We've been lacking options in the middle for some time now.

I think I almost rival you Sas in my dislike of JR but he is doing his bit to change my mind! I think Santa, Bentley, Gamst, and Dunn will be the attacking force on Wed. Although Gamst is as useful as McClaren's attempts to hide under a brolly last Wednesday, I think we should stick by him, show him some support and hopefully the confidence = goals will return.

I've been one of JR's biggest fans (along with MikeyGamst) and have stuck with him all the time, saying how good he will come in the end, and he ws superb when he came on wasn't he and I will have no problem whatsoever with him leading the line against Villa.

I would like to see Mcarthy and Santa Cruz start, although I am a massive Roberts fan - Hughes da Man can back me up on this one lol - but I think that u have to build on a partnership and we have two of the better stikers in the League in Benni and Roque who were starting to work well together. Roberts is very quick and strong and would be a great starter for us but I think that when the other two are fit then as an impact player in the 2nd half ( or when someone has to come off ) then NO-ONE has better than we have in Jason Roberts to come in and do a job!

Massive boost for us on Wednesday if he is out. Looking forward to the game, 2 teams in form should be close.

It sounds like he is fit and ready to play... good on him I say but I would find it difficult not to start Roberst after the other day. Hughes has a headache decison to make... but a good one.

He'll start with Roberts and Cruz. Pederson and Bentley as the wingers with Savage and Emerton in the middle. Or Bentley in the middle and Emerton on the right. They could interchange. In fact, Pederson, Emerton and Bentley could all swap and play in any position! Can't see Savage hurtling down the left flank, though...The usual back four of Ooijer, Samba, Nelson and Warnock, with the every reliable Friedal.
