What (Or Who!) Next For England?!?!

We (England) had the chance to salvage a completely and utterly undeserved place at the European Championship Finals in Austria & Switzerland next summer but we blew it. Steve McClaren has lost his job, but what happens next with England?!?!

Israel gave England a lifeline when they beat Russia 2-1 on Saturday Evening, but following England's 3-2 defeat to Croatia on Wednesday Evening (even then we got another chance, coming back from 2-0 down after only fifteen minutes!!!) we (the English) now have to face up to the realisation that there will be no England at the European Championships, there will be no home nations interest at all in fact!!!

England's failure has not only meant we will not be going to Austria and Switzerland but it also cost McClaren his job, now the process of finding his replacement begins.

Rovers should be safe, the Football Association will not come after Mark Hughes (will they?!?!) with people such as Martin O'Neill and Jose Mourinho the current favourites, but who is the man than you want to lead England to victory in the 2010 World Cup?

At this point in time it is a very sad time for English football, but in the long run this failure COULD be a good thing (hopefully!!!)
Martin O'Neill is the man I wanted before Stevie Mac got the England job, I think I will stick with this decision and would want him now that Stevie Mac has gone again.

Mourinho or Lippi

I think McClaren was inept - I would like to see a fresh face in place - maybe O'Neil as he has an interest in young English players from Villa - but would that mean he'd pick Carson again!

Gotta be Fabio Cappelo for me. National management should be about coaching, technique, skill. Not barking orders.

You just dnt want O'Neil to go!

I'm gonna throw my hat intp the ring and back o'neill... his man management skills are superb.

He'd not take no ***** from anyone would he, but I'm not sure he wants it now? He'd be my pick though, failing than Jose Mourinho, but wait he doesn't want it, failing that Arsene Wenger, but wait he doesn't want it either!!! I maye have to apply myself lol!
Hughes Da Man
Get your application in HDM... mines in already.

Some peopel have mentioned Roy Hodgson... I though he was a good bloke and has a lot of international and euro experience - also he wouldn't take no s##t from the players

Most successful English managers on league form (Premiership) are: Hodgson (6th 98), Redknapp & Little (5th & 6th 99), Gregory (6th 2000), Robson (02,03,04) Allardyce (05, 07) - McClaren only managed a 7th place finish in 2005 - No English manager has finished in the top 4 in ten years (correct me if I'm wrong!) last manager that I can think of was Keegan. Will we have to look abroad for a manager from now on?
