Williams Dismisses Ooijer Reports

Blackburn Rovers defender Andre Ooijer might be out of contract at the end of the season but Rovers chairman John Williams has denied claims that Ooijer has already been told he can have a free transfer.

Ooijer has been subject of media speculation surrounding a return to Holland with Feyenoord next summer (if not before) this has been played down by Feyenoord, although Ooijer himself has left the door open for such a move, and other reports are claiming that Rovers have already told him that he can leave on a free transfer in the summer, something that Williams has denied.

Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph: "It's simply not true that we've said to Andre he can leave on a free transfer next summer.

"The situation with his contract is very simple. We signed him on a two-year deal last summer and the club has the option of a further year if we want to extend it.

"The date that clause must be exercised by is around April time, so no decision has to be made just yet.

"All I will say is Andre is a very valuable member of Mark Hughes' squad
."

Personally my opinion hasn't changed, I do think that we should keep him until the summer but do not expect him to get a new contract, so although he WOULN'T have been told he can leave for free in the summer (and RIGHTLY so, as why would you tell someone that in November!!!) I think there is a good chance that he still will.

Ooijer has filled in well this year, i think we should give him another year at least, unless sparky picks up another gem

I can't see it myself dude, he WILL want to play, and I don't think he will play as often as he wants (and probably deserves) here so I think he'll do back to Holland in the summer.
Hughes Da Man
Its all specualtion at the moment guys. Either way as we always say... In Hughes we trust.
MikeyGamst
Yeah! I can carry on voting for him...!

Latest news is that we are now going to offer him a new contract!!!

I hope he accepts

Twists and turn this guys,.... is there ever an easy ride with Blackburn!?!?
MikeyGamst
That's to easy isn't it dude and reduces the fun :)
Personally, I like Ooijer a lot but I can't see him staying even if he is offered a new deal, a 34-year-old will want assurances that he'll play, Sparky can't offer that UNLESS (hopefully not) he sells God or the Wall.
Hughes Da Man
I think he might stay - Rovers are on the up, it's a long season so he'll get games, he's in the best league, he's still selected for Holland, and most importantly... who would want to leave rovers?!
