Mokoena Looking For More Action

Mokoena Looking For More Action

Blackburn Rovers "utility man" Aaron Mokoena has more or less admitted that he does not want to go back to being a bit part player, if he does that could be the last straw.

Mokoena has again stepped in with Robbie Savage currently out injured, and although he admits that he is patient (as he has been since his arrival) he would not really be happy if he is relegated back to the Bench when Savage (and/or others) returns.

Mokoena told the Daily Star "Every player wants to play as much as possible. I've always been patient, but I don't like sitting on the bench.

"I started more games towards the end of last season, but it has been more frustrating this season once again

When the 26-year-old South African captain came in for Sav last season (when he had broken his leg) he really sold himself to the Rovers fans, and proved himself to be a quality footballer. Prior to that, having played in various positions during his Rovers career before that he really never fully convinced people of his worth, but an extended run brought the best out of him and EVERYONE appreciated this.

It will be interesting to see what does happen when others are fit, as although he has always been patient and not rocked the boat should he not get many first team starts as a result then he could start to look elsewhere for football, which would be a shame.

The Axe is a good footballer, and I do worry that he will want to move on if he is straight out of the team again when others return. He MORE THAN proved himself last season to be a good footballer and worthy of a place in the team, so we will just have to wait and see.
One thing though, why do so many of out footballers talk to the Daily Star?!?!

Good point about the Daily Star, dunno the axe is good but not great for our fifth place aim, good for back up, i do rate him, but he makes the odd passin mistake and is really best to break up the play which is not what we want to be doing we want to be controlling the game these days.

They prob speak to the star because the mirror, the sun and the guardian are very London biased... oh and the mail.

If he'd learn how to mark key players on corners in massive games (i.e. RONALDO) then I might agree with him... But Sav has my vote!
13/11/2007 22:13:00
fair point tat martinr... he didnt have the best of games did he but then again, most players have trouble marking Ronny.
13/11/2007 22:34:00
The axe does what he has to do, he is a poor mans savage, but we got the both of em lol

I sincerely don't see him as a regular for Rovers. He can't pass the ball well, and therefore not good enough for the PL. Playing him in the starting lineup reminds me of playing with 10 players when attacking (including the GK). Sorry.

Fair enough israeli, but its not like Savage is a master passer. They are both there to do a job, clean up and give tugay and dunny plenty of space. Sure, savage does it much better then the axe, but he still does his job

Have to agree with sas really, the Axe (like Sav) isn't in there for his craft is he really, he is in to do a job, and does it very well in my opinion.

I like Axe and to write him off as a bad player is a bit harsh. fair enough he aint Tugay but he does his job and Spark likes him... thats good enough for me.
