'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ryan Pushing For Return

Ryan Nelsen admits it will be 'hard' to reclaim his place in the Blackburn Rovers team.

The New Zealand defender has missed the last six weeks with a leg injury suffered in the shock 2-0 Uefa Cup defeat to Larissa.

He is fit again and is hoping to be recalled by Mark Hughes for Wednesday's Carling Cup fourth round tie at Portsmouth.

But the Rovers captain accepts that, with the team on a six-game winning streak, he can not take a return for granted.

'A bit frustrating for a few weeks there, but I'm back now,' Nelsen told Sky Sports News.

'It's hard to get into the Blackburn team at the moment, which is fantastic, but hopefully fingers crossed.'

Nelsen also revealed the club's determination to make progress in the Carling Cup, particularly after the first-round defeat in the Uefa Cup.

He added: 'The early exit of the Uefa Cup was a huge blow to us, but I suppose it has opened up the door now for the priority for the Carling Cup.

'We want to win things and the manager wants to win things. He reminded us he won it here as a player.

'I think he wants to do it as a manager as well and we want to do it as players.'

He may find it tough because Andre is playing very well... but I would still take God over him. Samba looks a bit mroe comfortable with him there but not take anything away from the solid Ooijer.

Nelsen when fit is one of the best CB in the Premiership!
Real Deal
I would say he is in the top5 real deal.

When Nelson is fit he will step back into the squad, I agree that Andre is playing well but Hughes knows his best partnership at the back. I dont really agree with players just getting in straight after being injured but when its God then how can u argue! And he's def in the top 5 centrebacks in the Prem!
Clint
Sorry I should have added that with our injuries in the centre of midfield then Oojier may need to play there, he's done it before for club and country so it may not mean him dropping from the team should Nelsen return to defence
Clint
I think we need him back - we've only got 2 clean sheets in the prem so far this season, haven't we? If there's anything worrying sparky about our performances so far it will be that - and God's the man to set that record straight.

I think Ooijer in the middle would be dangerous... he aint up to that sort of Premiership pace. Nelsen showed how good he is last night.

Looks like he was given a chance at the back straight away... and he toook it.
MikeyGamst
He is certainly one of the top defenders in the Premiership isn't he NO ONE can argue against it.
You don't keep him out of the side for long do you!!!

When Ryan plays we rarely lose - hope I haven't jinxed him!
