Derbyshire Could Add To Striker Woes

Blackburn Rovers are facing a potential striking crisis this weekend after Matt Derbyshire limped away from England's Under-21 match on Tuesday Evening.

Derbyshire was eventually forced off in England's 3-0 European Under-21 Championship Qualifying 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland with a little over an hour played (having previously picked up a knock to the shin that he was unable to run off) and he could now provide Rovers with another much unwanted, and VERY untimely injury worry.

In the summer when Roque Santa Cruz signed this gave Rovers five genuine top class International quality strikers (not forgetting Paul Gallagher of course!) so we were spoilt for choice, but Jason Roberts recently picked up a thigh injury and is out, Santa Cruz is suffering with tendonitis in the knee so if Derbs misses out too that will leave manager Mark Hughes with only Benni McCarthy (who has looked out of soughts) and Maceo Rigters (who has not played much football) for Saturday's Premier League match with Reading.

However, with injuries often opening the door for people (with this actually being the case for Derbs last season) this could be the opening that Rigters has been looking for, and could prove the turning point in his Rovers career?!?!

Obviously I'd not want Derbs to miss out but this could give Rigters the chance that he has been waiting for?!?!

I think we will see the best of Benni on Saturday so don't worry just yet guys. Plus HDM you could be right in that Maceo might have his say.

It looks like Derbs is fit after all doesn't it, so panic over, Rigters might have to ait a little longer?!?! However, he has two in two in the reserves doesn't he and is fresh, Derbs played one and a bit Internationals didn't he.

It'll be McCarthy, with Bentley just behind him. Derbyshire and Rigters on the bench. With that system, we only need one fit striker! :-)

Anyone know how quickly we can get Paul Gallagher back if any more striker injuries occur? When is (that Irish chap who has been out so long we have almost forgotten his name!) back available for selection?

Not sure about the score on Gally, you'd have thought they would have put a 24-48 hours notice re-call clause in place wouldn't you?!!? However, having said that they wouldn't have been expecting that many striker out in one go would they?!?!
As said in another article comment Reidy is "nearing a return" apparently, that could man anything, so I have no idea lol!
