Rovers Links To Keeper & Defender

Rovers Links To Keeper & Defender

Blackburn Rovers have been linked to a Championship goalkeeper and a French defender over the weekend, but neither looks that likely to be coming to Ewood Park anytime soon?!?!

The goalkeeper in question is Barnsley's 29-year-old Heinz Muller, who has been performing superbly for the Championship club this season, helping them in their rise up the table. However, with three senior International goalkeepers already here (OK Brad Friedel is a former International!) with several promising youngsters also coming through, including Frank Fielding (who is held in the highest regard by Friedel) another goalkeeper arriving is VERY highly unlikely, so this appears to be a non-starter?

Sebastien Bassong, a 21-year-old defender currently playing for Metz revealed at the weekend that interest from Rovers (as well as Aston Villa and Everton) was flattering for him, and he could consider a move to England at the end of the season, but not before.

Bassong told the Sunday Mirror: "I won't leave Metz before the end of the season, but then I'll sit down and take stock.

"I am flattered to know that such big clubs are interested in me, but right now I'll concentrate on trying to get Metz out of trouble

The French Under-21 International is understood to have been watched by scouts from all three clubs this season. However, Rovers have since denied any interest.

Meanwhile there is some news today that Hull City could be interested in taking Maceo Rigters on loan?

The Championship side are building quite an impressive squad with Jay Jay Okocha becoming one of the biggest names to sign in recent months. Word from our Vital Hull neighbours is that Hull manager Phil Brown has watched the Dutch striker and could make a bid to sign him on loan, something which Rigters himself has already expressed an interest in, and also something which Rovers chairman John Williams has admitted could happen.

Rovers have NO need for another goalkeeper, so the Heinz Muller talk is a non-starter reall.
Sebastien Bassong isn't a name that I am familiar with really, but he does come highly rated so he wouldn't be a bad option would he? However, Rovers are denying this aren't they.
I'm still a little surprised that Rigters wants to go out on loan anyway, but this might not be a bad thing, and a move to Hull could be a VERY good thing?!?!

About the GK issue- Enckers is a free agent in a few months...I'm not sure whether Brown is really a top PL gk....I've seen Fielding only a handful times and he was far from being impressive (extremely short too)

Hmm...interesting rumours. Can't see either materialising. Still am surprised the Maceo link is strengthening considering the injuries we have atm.

I heard that Hull were interested in Christian Vieri...

That wouldn't surprise me, what a GREAT signing that would be for them!!!

I think that if the 'keeper is good then get him in, as was said b4 Enkelman is basically away soon and Brown from wot we have seen can handle the 1st team, but I have not seen enough of him to make a definate judgement on him, after all any keeper we get will have a big job to follow!! This Heinz lad seems to be a good age but is is a stop gap or seen as the next 1st choice?? We have good up and coming keepers at the club already so u would think with Brad's reign surely coming to an end sooner rather than later then we need to start looking for at least 2 goalies that can interchange with each other without dropping the standard. Rigters going on loan may be good for the club as they can stick in a clause to call him back, he's not getting the games at Rovers just at the min and with him just arriving in England he may do him good to get the reg football needed to get him used to the game here.

I still think we could have a good three-years at least from Bradders yet, so that would make Heinz 32, or thereabouts by that point. Not old for a goalkeeper I know, but not young to be starting out as the established number one either is it?
I've got a lot of faith in Brown, as well as Fielding and also the Faroe's goalkeeper we signed. We also got that young German one last season didn't we, and one from Cyprus or something like that, so we have plenty coming through (in theory anyway!)

I cant see either of these things happening i am afraid guys. Keeperwise we are well off as our first choice never misses a game!!!!

I would love to think we would ahve Brad for another 3 yrs but I cant see it! I do think that with Hughes at the club now then it would be wqorht our while using his name and expertise at getting players in to benefit the club for future yrs, not to say that whoever we get after him wouldnt be able to do this but with names likes Samba, Warnock, Santa Cruz, Bentley etc then we should use this knowledge. I suspect that Fielding, Neilson in the reserves are good but with Brad, as was ritley said, not missing that many games its hard to judge them, along with Brown there as well sorry

I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens I guess. Bradders could on for years, it's just a case of him wanting to or not?!?!
