Santa Cruz Picks Up Injury

Roque Santa Cruz will not play in Paraguay's World Cup qualifiers after picking up an injury in Sunday's game.

The Blackburn striker suffered tendonitis in Rovers' win over Birmingham at Ewood Park on Sunday.

National team doctors have ruled Santa Cruz out of Saturday's game in Peru and the fixture against Uruguay four days later.

According to the Paraguayan Football Association (APF), the 26-year-old could require surgery to fix the problem.

'Santa Cruz was injured in the match he played for Blackburn last weekend and it is very possible that he will need surgery,' said a statement from APF.

Paraguay coach Gerardo Martino has called up Cerro Porteno striker Jorge Achucarro as a replacement for Santa Cruz.

Hope this isnt as bad as it sounds, he has been really impressive so far....

Really hope he recovers... Roque has been BRILLIANT so far this season. Although at least benni has hit his stride! Plenty of time till the next game to rest, good news he's not off to Paraguay.

well if he is out for a while then it gves someone else a chance mentioning no names (Derbyshire, Matthew)

We do have cover should he be out for a while. However, he would be a loss, considering he has 97,000 MOTM and player of the month awards so far this season (as voted for my VFBlackburn). However, as McCarthy seems to have pulled his finger from hos arse, and the system Hughes has seemed to adopt, 4-4-1-1, only gives place for one striker anywhoo. Give Benni a chance to prove his worth.

97,000??? is that a rough estimate or exact?!??!

It will be a shame if he is out but we have benni and derbs not to mention Maceo. I think we will be okay with a 24-goal-a-season striker filling in!

F**k! :( I was hopping him to score some goals for Paraguay on these two games, considering how good he was playing for Blackburn...Well, I wish he can get better soon

97000 was a rough guess...

Apparently the actual figure is nearer to 96,000. But not a bad estimate.

*****! Sorry dude. Sasman did write and submit something but work was calling.
However, looking at the time on your email dude it says 11:39, which would be three minutes after Mikey had put his on, so even if I had been around to publish it for you Mr Mickey would have still been in there like a rat up a drainpipe!

The actual figure guys is 95,449 so technically closer to 95,000 :) lol

Seriously dude YOUR email said 11:39, which if you look at the time Mikey's article went on his was 11:36 so this was three minutes after, besides I wasn't around anyway, if I was I would have put it on (and you KNOW I would as I've NEVER not published anything that has been sent to me!)

Damn right I am lol!
Six weeks, that ISN'T good! However, this gives someone the opportunity to step in and do the business doesn't it.
This is why Sparky has FIVE quality strikers isn't it, to compensate for something like this.

Well JR is out as well so we're down to three... but with the current formation we are playing everything is really interchangable!!!!
