McCarthy Sent For Extra Training

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has moved quickly to quash any suggestion that he has fallen out with Benni McCarthy, with this a thought for him missing the Sunderland match.

With the media as it is, if a star player is left out of a match day squad (let alone the starting line-up) they have automatically fallen out with the manager, something that Hughes has quickly denied saying he was simply left out to work on his own match fitness to carry out some extra work in an attempt to improve his form, which is something Sparky has been disappointed with, and has openly admitted.

Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "There's no problem whatsoever. Benni understands the situation and he'll be back very, very quickly and he'll have a major part to play this year.

"So there's no cause for concern.

"We had a chat in the week and I just felt that Benni needed a little bit of one-to-one work, and when he has had that work his levels will be better.

"He is struggling with a little bit of form at the moment, he understands that, so once he's had the work we are going to put into him he'll be better for it, and he'll be able to have the impact he had last year.

"He had a bang early in the season and maybe that has affected him more than we thought
."

How Benni could react to this was a concern of mine, but with Sparky clarifying the situation then all being well this shouldn't be a problem and the benefits to both Benni and Rovers could be superb!!! Much like Sparky said maybe the knock that Benni took could have impacted more than it was thought?

Players have to earn a place, and when they have it they have to work hard to keep it.
Sparky could have kept playing Benni but something wasn't right so a little extra work will benefit everyone and will now make him hungry to return, and when he does this should benefit us!!!
Hughes Da Man
this will get him moving again, maybe need a bit of freshening up
sasman
Glad to see Sparky's not afraid of his stars in the squad.
IsraeliRover
It is nice to see that Hughes is not scared to drop players like Benni, who is important to the team. Hughes Da Man is rite in saying that players have to earn a place in the team, no matter who they are, they do not have a God given rite to start if they are not playing well. We have a big enough squad with more than enough quality to leave even Benni out and win games! Should give him a kick up the arse and prompt him into training as hard as the rest of the squad if this the case, he could just be carrying an injury after all
Clint
Great to see Hughes moving for the benefit of the team. I was surprised by his expulsion from the squad but if Sparky doesn't think things are working at the moment then he has to do something about it and he did. Was plaesed that Gamst was dropped.
roversman
Yeah, Gamst has also failed to impress so far this season and was rightly dropped for Saturday's game. It might give him a kick up the backside and motivate him to do better. Whats great at the minute is that nobody is assured of a starting place in our team and that in itself speaks volumes as to how far we've progressed under Sparky!

How about giving Peter/Treacy a decent run?
IsraeliRover
Sergio would be the one who deserves this really, he has played second fiddle for a long time so if one of these two got a run (even though I can't see it personally as MGP will be back in for the next game?!?!) it should be him, if it isn't then I think he would know he doesn't have a future so I wouldn't expect him to stay much longer after than.
Hughes Da Man
Yeah I would like to see Sergio given that chance to either make or break his career with rovers. Like you say dude, he has been waiting for some time now so it might be worthwhile giving him that extra bit of confidence and starting him.
roversman
Yeah dude it's got to be, if he can't make a breakthrough soon he never will, so I would not expect to see him hanging around that much longer if he doesn't get a sniff.
Hughes Da Man
benni has looked no where near the player he was last season but he has a good enough manager to help him get back to his best
muffdaddy1983
I think that the knock he took has actually effected him more than it might have first appeared?!?!
Hughes Da Man
I think this makes perfect sense. As long as McCarthy responds to this in the correct way then it is only a good thing.
MikeyGamst
If Benni WANTS to be a Rover he will won't he, if not he won't he will sulk and ask for a move.
Hughes Da Man
by all accounts he is begging for some action tomorrow??? sounds like the right response to me
MikeyGamst
Yeah dude exactly what we want to see and hear isn't it, the hunger to want to play. And I think he WILL, and he'll score! (Sticking my neck out again lol!)
Hughes Da Man
HDM... according to you everyone will score!!! what about Brad?!??
MikeyGamst
has he got the hump cos he isn't playing in the Champions League?
