Broomes The Biggest Disappointment

Broomes The Biggest Disappointment

Vital Blackburn's most recent Poll, suggested by IsraeliRover asked "Which of our following youngsters turned out to be the most disappointing?" Marlon Broomes.

In the mid to late 1990's a defender by the name of Marlon Broomes was supposed to burst onto the scene to become one of the next big things, but between 1994 and 2001 after less than 50 League and Cup performances for Rovers, and a few loan spells away he was given a free transfer to Sheffield Wednesday. So with almost half of the vote, his 40% sees him as the most disappointing youngster to have come through. He is currently contracted to Stoke City, but a ruptured Achilles tendon un the summer of 2006 meant he missed the whole 2006-2007 season, and hasn't played a competitive match since.

Not a lot could separate Welsh striker James Thomas (17%), Jonathan Douglas (14%) and Ben Burgess (11%) who were next on the disappointment stakes, with only Douglas from this band actually making some real inroads into the first team.

Jerome Watt (8%), Martin Taylor (8%) and Damien Johnson (2%) completed what was a VERY interesting poll.

So in summary
Marlon Broomes - 40%
Jerome Watt - 8%
Ben Burgess - 11%
Jonathan Douglas - 14%
James Thomas - 17%
Damien Johnson - 2%
Martin Taylor - 8%

Broomes got my vote, as a youngster he was going to be a star, England Under-21 honours followed but it didn't really happen.
Personally I didn't see Douglas as being disappointing, the only thing that did disappoint me was that he wasn't given enough games.

Jonathan Douglas still has time to make a name for himself. At least he is still in the frame. Whatever happened to James Thomas? He was so good. A better prospect than James Beattie. I think it was because of Thomas that we sold Beattie. He really was exceptional. Wherever he is, good luck to him.

Douglas is an Irish International isn't he, so he hasn't done that bad has he?!?!
Thomas was with Swansea last I heard, and had pretty good goalscoring record but I can't find any record of a match since 2005, so I assume injury ended his career or something as he would only be 30, or tounger now wouldn't he.

Thomas plays in the Welsh league for Llanelli A.F.C- at the time I thought he was going to be the next best thing, but when he played for us he's never really done anything useful.... In my oipinion Broomes was supposed to be our new Hendry, however he was injury prone...I've never seen Burgess nor Watt, but I was told by other fans they were extremely talented- Watt plays for Southport in the conference while Burgess plays for Blackpool...

I have to say that none of the players on the list have really amounted to much, Maybe Johnson being the exception but then he hasnt really hit any great heights either. Players like Douglas are internationals cos teams like Ireland do not have the same talent as before and have to pick any players they can now. They are good players but not the talent Rovers need, which kinda says why they are not there any more

Douglas did well for Leeds. Burgess is quite good for Championship sides on Footie Manager. Tried to buy him for Accrington. He didn't wish to play at the next to lowest level (I got them promoted to League One, then I wa spoached by Sunderland, and currently sitting at the top of the Championship, on a 10 match winning run. Dowie is in charge of Rovers, who are currently situated 7 points behind me...Hughes is at Liverpool, and has just won the Premiership...) Broomes was meant to be quality. Saw him a couple of times in non-entity games, and he didn't look that impressive. I always thought Taylor was a good player. It was Souness that shattered his confidence by saying he wasn't that good!

Could life mirror you game in a way dude, Iain Dowie for Rovers when Air Alex retires and Sparky takes over at Manure?!?! Not that likely, but you never know, we could do worse than Dowie, but could also do better!!!

If Dowie comes here I'd be seriously thinking of supporting Burnley....

I hate Dowie. I want to send it him negative comments, but he is managing my beloved Rovers, and I don't want to cause rifts between me and the club...

Championship Cost Per Goal So Far In 2016/17

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
