'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Brett Happy With Return

Aussie midfielder Brett Emerton made an impressive return to the starting line up last night as Blackburn beat Leeds 3-0 in the Carling Cup.

Emerton told the clubs radio: 'The team is performing well at the moment, we've had a few wins on the trot so every one is confident and it is good to see the team doing well. All three goals were great team goals, there was some great movement from the team and it was also good to see Lucas on the scoresheet and good to see us scoring goals again.'

The Leeds game was the players first start since the second round win against Huddersfield.

'Nobody likes to be sitting on the sidelines but it's a team game and it is a long season so everyone has to play their part. When I am called upon I'll just go out there and do the best I can. I feel good at the moment, I'm fresh, I haven't played too much, I was happy with my performance against Leeds.'

He wasn't the only one who was happy, Mark Hughes said: 'We talk about guys who have been out of the team making an impression and they have to be ready and they have to train well leading up to games and hope that they get the opportunity. Brett came on today and did very very well and that is what we want.'
