Hughes Rightly Backing Benni

Hughes Rightly Backing Benni

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes is rightly (as why shouldn't he!!!) backing Benni McCarthy to rediscover his goalscoring touch VERY soon.

McCarthy, who scored 24 goals last season (included finishing second to Didier Drogba in the Premiership top scorer stakes) has managed just one Premiership goal this far this season but this is not a concern for Hughes who has complete faith in the South African finding his goalscoring form soon, and probably sooner rather than later!

Hughes said: "It is still early in the season and I think it is a case of a number of players still finding their feet after a summer of hard work and preparations for the coming campaign.

"Some players will hit the ground running and others will need games. Everybody knows the ability Benni has and his goalscoring form will come back - everybody knows that.

"It's still early. I think Benni will come to the fore as he did last year. He is an exceptionally talented player and his quality is bound to come through
."

McCarthy was omitted from the Rovers side for Wednesday Evening's Carling Cup encounter with Birmingham City but this was no reflection of his recent performances, simply a case of him being rested with so many matches coming up.

Benni is a goalscorer isn't he, this is what he does so he will be banging them in again soon.
But I will say he needs to up his commitment level a bit, as until he does it will take him a little longer to find these goals again.

I think this is just another wild accusation from bored journalists. Benni will start scoring again as soon as we find a rhythm in the team again. Notice the last three league games. Man City, he scored and was playing but was sacrificed after the daft red issued to Tugs. Chelsea away, not many strikers fair well there and there was no service. Pompy at home. It was a crap result and he was once again sacrificed early on as we chased the game with the long ball. Nowt to worry about!

on the topic of Benni, no reason for Hughes not to back him. He hasnt scored in a few games but he will... the type of player that Benni is will always score goals given the right chances.
