Blackburn Rovers are a team that are making waves, this has been the case for a couple of years now, and this will be the case in the future according to Brad Friedel…but ONLY if Mark Hughes stays.
Since taking over at Ewood Park in 2004 Hughes has turned Rovers from a relegation threatened side team of fighters (as they were, but needs required this at that time) to a team that challenged for a Champions League place less 12-months later, and now a club established in the top echelons of the Premiership and looking like competing in European Competition year in year out, with the club playing some superb football.
The early signs so far this season, with Rovers making a superb start to the season (carrying on where they left off at the end of the previous one) which has not always been the case, has seen an unbeaten run extending the fifteen matches, with many people (both within and without Rovers circles) tipping the club to challenge for honours in this, and future seasons, and so long as Hughes remains at the helm Friedel has joined this growing band insisting Rovers CAN seriously challenge for honours under his leadership.
Friedel told the Lancashire Telegraph: "As long as Mark stays here, we will put ourselves in the position to win silverware and that has always been the aim.
"When he arrived, we were struggling and in the bottom two. If you look at the squad today, it is vastly different and the whole complexity of the set-up is different.
"The way he wanted us to play required the players to be at a much higher level of physical fitness."
