MGP: Rovers Can WIN The UEFA Cup

Blackburn Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen believes (like me!!!) that Rovers can win this seasons UEFA Cup.

Recently Rovers manager Mark Hughes has welcomed the expectations levels Rovers fans are raising, and believes that Rovers are capable of winning silverware as they are now regarded as one of this countries better sides (so this is understandable) so he fells that Rovers CAN and WILL challenge for honours, something that Gamst Pedersen also agrees with and he feels this could be in this season UEFA Cup, which begins in this seasons UEFA Cup proper on Thursday with the first round first leg tie against Larissa in Greece.

Norwegian International Gamst Pedersen told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "Of course we can, we are a good side, we've just drawn against Chelsea and Arsenal, so why can't we do well against other teams.

"We will take one game at a time and hopefully we can go a long way. It is s tough competition this year, but we can do well in it I am sure of that.

"We are looking forward to the game on Thursday and to new challenges. Greece is far away, but we want to do well in the UEFA Cup and we've got a good chance.

"We have to be professional, it is an important game for us, and we will take a look at them on the videos and try to get as much information about them as we can
."

Gamst Pedersen is right to target the old cliché of taking each game as it comes, as Hughes and his Rovers backroom staff would have it no other way, but why not target glory, it REALLY isn't that unrealistic!!!

There is no point playing if you don't believe you can win something is there.
Sometimes expectations may be unrealistic but the thought that Rovers could win this seasons UEFA Cup if far from that, and we WILL go very far, I genuinely feel (as I did last season) that Rovers can go all the way!!!

European refs will be quicker to crack down on rough play, maybe that'll be a problem?
nakcuh
Maybe, but i think Rovers will be treated more fairly in Europe than they do in the Premier League. A lot of the bookings we pick up are non-sensical, English refs have a view that Rovers are a dirty team.
spinaker7081
Quite possibly! You'll just have to make sure you keep Mr Savage in chains!!
nakcuh
on a negative note I do wish our players would stop mouthing off about winning stuff... lets keep our heads down and work....
MikeyGamst
Savage in chains?!?!? sack that!!!! unleash the beast!!!!
MikeyGamst
you'll never win it its ours
EvertonMike
tell me mar me mar, to put the champagne on ice, we're going to city twice, tell me mar me mar
EvertonMike
what micky??? why???? I think it's great to see this confidence and ambition from the team!
martinr
I know it is nice to see confidence mate but there is something better about being understated.... if we keep banging our own drum aka Spurs then we'll end up looking silly if we dont do it. Quietly confident is the way forward.
MikeyGamst
nakcuh - Why should it be a problem?!?! You're not implying that ROvers are a physical side are you? I've never heard that one before ;)
Hughes Da Man
I'm with martir, when players start saying Rovers WILL win things, that is when I will be angry, saying they COULD is fine by me.
Hughes Da Man
I think it shows the great self-belief that the side has at the moment. Besides, He's not saying BR are 'going' to win it, just that we 'can', and more importantly that the team wants to do well in it. Nothing Spurs-ish in those comments.
Desert Kiwi
When we get to the Spuresque comments that is when I will be angry lol!
Hughes Da Man
fair enough lads I was just doing my decimus poole impresssion with negativity!!!! lol ;)
MikeyGamst
self-belief is key to a winning mentality, i'm all for it! plus it's not something we've been that ised to the last few years! and yes, we always say we CAN win it, never that we WILL. Micky I always think that rocvers is understated by defination, but the real possibility of success is there now ad it's something to get excited about for sure.
martinr
2-0. I take it all back.
martinr
At 2-0 down now is when we will find out how much Rovers want it!!!
Hughes Da Man
true enough!
