Hughes: Reid Can Be Better Than Ever

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes believes returning midfielder Steven Reid can be better than ever when he comes back from his long injury hell.

He told the official Rovers website: 'We are really hopeful this time round. He's done a fantastic amount of work and once we do get him back, touch wood, he'll be bigger, faster and stronger because of the amount of preparation that he has had to do just to build himself up to get him back to the level he's at now.

'Once he starts playing and once he gets games under his belt, he is going to be a great player for us.'

MIKEY THOUGHTS

I don't think anyone doubts Reidy's ability, we saw in the 2005-06 when he won the prestigious MikeyGamst Player of the year award that he has the drive and ability to be a top class Premiership midfielder.

It really is just a case of his ability to stay fit (much like the impressive David Dunn). If he can do that and everyone at Rovers hopes he can... then he is invaluable. A midfield squad of Bentley, Pedersen, Tugay, Dunn, Mokoena, Peter, Savage AND Reid gives Hughes a chance to rest the likes of Dunn more often which will keep us in good shape for March/April/May.

I know we've touched on this briefly before but you just can't stop printing good news can you???!!! I am excited about his return because Reidy is THE reason we didnt buy another midfielder before the window shut...

but will he be as good a syou remember? injury can be a strange thing.

You can never tell how a player will react after a long injury... it seems though that Owen came back stronger because he had a lot to prove. Stevie Reid is pure class in my book - i'd have him in centre midfield providing support leaving Dunny to raid forward. he can also stand 30 yards out and volley corners in to the back of the net in a Tugay style....

Great article Mikey, one of your best, and thats saying something....hehehe nah mate hope ur right, and hughesy also right. We really need reidy, sure dunny and sav are doing great, but they do need a rest, hopefully he gets back well soon, and tugay and the axe can fill in the gaps. I hope some of our fringe players at least get a bench start this wk against larissa.

Let us hope he is Reid of 05-06, if so then we have a new signing that makes us even stronger than we are. Alas, I think he needs to be eeked in so as not to force him to over do it. Use him mainly as a sub over the next few months. Good work Mikey!

Thanks guys... I hope we are all correct about this.

Yeah, ditto, good work Mr Mikey!
Without doubt, he need to be gradually worked back in, I've said it before that I am worried about his ability to overcome his injuries, and worry they migth keep coming back but I PRAY they don't!!!

I reckon a couple of sub appearances will be the order to ease him back in.... He gives us an extra (vital) option and to lose him again when he is so close would be devastating.
