Benni Wants To Fight For Silverware

Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy is the latest in a line of Rovers players to speak VERY positively about the club, and what he feels it could achieve this season. His aim to challenge for Silverware.

McCarthy told in the News of the World: "I am convinced that Blackburn can achieve big things in the Premier League and the Uefa Cup this season."

Last season McCarthy struck up a very good friendship off the pitch with Jason Roberts, with their partnership on it starting to look very successful (after an injury disrupted season for Rovers), but McCarthy now feels that his partnership with Roque Santa Cruz could be the key to things, and the key to bringing that silverware to Ewood Park that he and everyone else wants.

He added: "The key thing is that they don't depend just on me.

"With Santa Cruz things are better and we are able to divide the work.

"I am sure we can become one of the best partnerships in the English game.

"Lasts season I was fighting for the top goalscorer and now I want us to fight for a trophy
."

Santa Cruz appears to be McCarthy's new best friend, maybe that explains why Roberts showed a complete lack of enjoyment at scoring his goal against MyPa recently and run straight down the tunnel after the game, he may be feeling left out!!!

Personally I REALLY do think that Rovers can challenge for something, I still think the UEFA Cup is the thing Rovers could win, but would not bet against the Carling Cup or even the FA Cup.
The McCarthy and Santa Cruz partnership is starting to look VERY promising, but the other strikers at Rovers ALSO have more than a part to play.

Doubt you could win the UEFA cup. Theres a certain team named Bayern Munich who are absolutely loaded. Should be in the CL with that team. If they dont win it their coachs head will be on the chopping block.

We will give it our best shot. If bayern were that good, they would be in the champions league, right?? Fantastic to hear that from benni, exactly what we want to hear

Great words from Benni. Alas, I am with gunnerkid on this one with Bayern and fiorentina in there, who are very much an improving side, it is a big ask to lift the UEFA Cup. It would need quite a lot of luck.

Good to hear this... he wants to win things, but he wants to do it at Rovers.... As for Bayern, they were bad enough not to qualify the Champions League, so who says they wont flater again??? no-one will fancy playing us so lets have a go.

Bayern Munich WILL NOT win the UEFA Cup, maybe Rovers won't (although I HONESTLY think they could) but Munich won't I am certain of it.
Good words Benni, this is the kind if thing we DO want to hear him saying.

I am very cynical about these press releases. They are coming out at regular intervals, one by one from most of our first team, all saying similar things. I can't help thinking that they are written by a Rovers Public Relations operative. Where was this statement by Benni made? in South Africa or Manchester (isn't that where our new P.R. company operate) Personally I would prefer to hear less from our players, if, when they do make a statement, it is genuine and more relative to their situation. We all expect our teams to lift at least one piece of silverware at the start of every season

I think that you are being more than a little cynical dude. People moan when negative press comes out, but it also appears that not all are pleased when positive press is released. Maybe I am nieve but I genuinely think these things are being said by those who say them, and are not positive PR exercises.
Hughes Da Man
To roversman. Yeah they were crap last year but they went and bought a whole new team this summer. Ribery, Klose, and Luca Toni just to name a few. They are tearing up the Bundesliga. And it would be a good game between you and them and I bet it would be cool for Santa Cruz to play his old team.

I think santa would love it... I think our boys have the tools to trouble the best of them. And i mena that unbiasedly... if that is indeed a word!!!! lol
