Which Championship Player?

Vital Blackburn's most recent poll, suggested by IsraeliRover asked your opinion on "Which championship player would you bring in before the transfer window closes?" We still don't know as we voted other!

If Rovers could sign a player from the Championship it would not be one of the seven names on offer, it would be someone else, but who would this be? Almost half the voters, 48% in fact would rather Rovers went down a road other than the people mentioned.

Zoltan Gera's 15% saw him top the list of players that would be liked at Ewood Park, followed by Matthew Kilgallon, Tom Soares and Andy Keogh with all three gaining 9% each.

Owen Garvan (4%), Michael Kightly (4%) and Jermaine Easter (2%) could not really be split as they completed the polls voting.

So in summary
Zoltan Gera - 15%
Owen Garvan - 4%
Tom Soares - 9%
Andy Keogh - 9%
Jermaine Easter - 2%
Michael Kightly - 4%
Matthew Kilgallon - 9%
Other - 48%

With the transfer window getting closer to closing, any deals Rovers do will need to be sorted soon, but will anyone arrive? So the current poll, suggested by MikeyGamst is asking, "Will we sign anyone else before the end of the transfer window?"

As for what you think, cast your vote and why not have your say on the latest polls findings…

Personally (as I have already said to IsraeliRover) I have NOTHING against Championship players but other than Michael Kightly I don't really think I would want Rovers to sign any of the names mentioned. Zoltan Gera is a good footballer but if he was that good I personally think he would have come back to the Premiership when West Bromwich Albion went down.
I voted for the other option, but even then off the top of my head I can't really think of a player that I would want Rovers to sign from that level (again I must stress it is NOT because I think Championship level is below us.)

Quick question.., Jermaine Easter... he's at my local club Wycombe.. who aren't in the championship (unfortunately) but are in League 2!!!! He is a hero though
Bents4eng
hmm.. technically that was an observation, not a question!
Bents4eng
fair play Bents4Eng. wont mock you as your username rules.
MikeyGamst
Wouldn't really like us to sign any lower league players, unless young and show potential to be a star! Hughes may have his eye on a few but I can't think of any I would like to roll into Ewood.

People- don't forget Steven reid (a great player in my opinion), Lucas Neill, Jason Roberts and many others used to play in the championship....Sometimes (eg Gera's case) the club asks for 4-5 times more than the player is rated in order to keep him there... As I said before, Gera- in my opinion- is the perfect replacement for Tugay. Kightley is good (we have Bents though), Kilgallon would be a great player to have in the squad instead of Zurab. As for Garvan- no wonder they call him "the new Gerrard"- did you see him in action?
IsraeliRover
I am quite a fan of Tom Soares, very underrated Championship player.
MikeyGamst
You do not often see players make that kind of step up now do you, the risks of doing so are to great for many to "take a chance". I do agree there are a lot of good players in the lower leagues but do not think many will be risked, Sparky has other avenues that he goes down (plus we have an Award winning Academy as it is.)
Isn't Gera pushing towards 30 though himself?!?!
Hughes Da Man
Gera- 28.5 years old....Besides- isn't taking a talented left back (whom I really really love) that hardly ever played for the last 5 seasons a risk (I mean Warnock)- probably not since he became one of the best LB in this league....
IsraeliRover
So pushing closer to 30.....Don't agree with your comment on Warnock, he had some savage injuries over these years so he couldn't have played even if he wanted to. He went out on loan to Bradford and Coventry to play then WAS playing for Liverpool until last season, when he hardly got a look in so Rovers snapped him up.
Hughes Da Man
Those injuries just make my case stronger- why take a risk on a player that is injury-prone? {HDM- I'm not trying to argue for the sake of it- just show the other side of the issue)
IsraeliRover
Who is Owen Garvan? Bents4Eng - What is Easter like? I know he is highly rated, my home town team (Swindon) are fighting with the MK tossers for his signature.
Wellsy
Wellsy- Garvan is an extremely good CM playing for Ipswich. I've seen him on numerous times- a great shot, can pass the ball extremely quick and also great passing skills- long range wise. Sometimes I feel he's just what we need- a real driving force. As for Easter- he's an Earnshaw-like striker: great pace, good scorer, rounds defenders for fun etc.
IsraeliRover
There does appear to have been a stagnant period of late when it comes to top talent emerging from the championship and below. Few stand out for me, except maybe Billy Sharp.
