Santa Delivers Early For Rovers

Blackburn Rovers' most recent signing Roque Santa Cruz wasted little time in dishing out the gifts and getting off the mark for the club, as it only took him a couple of minutes to open his account.

Santa Cruz had come on to replace Benni McCarthy who was stretchered off with what looked like a serious injury at the time (thankfully not though!!!) with Rovers trailing 1-0 to Middlesbrough. Just a couple of minutes after coming on he headed home to bring the scores level, before Matt Derbyshire also came off the bench to claim the three points.

The striker (who turns 26-years-old this week) was obviously delighted to get off the mark so quickly, something, which he concedes, will also relieve some of the pressure on him. He was also quick to point out how important the service to him will be, highlighting the quality of David Bentley and Morten Gamst Pedersen.

The Paraguayan International told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "I'm very happy, because of the goal, and because we won the game.

"I enjoyed my first game very much, we worked so hard to get the three points, and I can also go home very happy because I scored on my debut.

"It takes the pressure off me now because everybody wants to score as soon as possible and I've already done that.

"We have great crossers in our team with Pedersen and Bentley I think I will enjoy playing with them
."

It is a GREAT start for him isn't it, what a dream debut!!!
If Bents and MGP keep supplying him with the quality (as they WILL!!!) he will probably has a field day, as will Rovers!

It is great to hear him praising team mates early on and the goal is ideal for helping him settle. Hopefully it will be the first of many this season and for Rovers. He looks hungry and happy to be a Rover.
