Olsson Takes His Rovers Chance

Roque Santa Cruz may have been the main draw for many Blackburn Rovers fans (and possibly Preston North End as well?!?!) on Saturday, but he was not the only Rover making his debut!

19-year-old left-back Martin Olsson also made his senior bow for the club during the 3-0 victory over Preston at Deepdale. The Under-19 Swedish International came on with thirty minutes to play as a substitute for Stephen Warnock, and the youngster did not disappoint.

A broken foot sustained by Bruno Berner last week during the defeat to Huddersfield has given Glyn Hodges' reserve regular a chance to stake a claim for a first team squad place this season (with him awarded a squad number of 29 last week), this injury is something which Olsson acknowledges, and although he does feel for Berner he is looking to make them of his chance, should more come along.

Olsson told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

"It was very good, I was nervous at first. But everyone gave me confidence and told me to play as I usually play and I started relaxing.

"It has been good news for me, I've been playing well this week and last year I played well too, so it is so good to get my chance now.

"It is unfortunate for Bruno, I feel sorry for him, but I have now my chance now and I'll take it and try to do my best
."

Rovers Manager Mark Hughes was pleased with what he saw from Olsson, and he added:

"Martin Olsson is a young player we've got high hopes for. I thought he did really well and he enjoyed his taste of first team football."

MARK MY WORDS, Olsson is destined for stardom!!! And he may get a taste of the Premiership (almost certainly the Carling Cup, depending on opponents?!?!) this season.
Hughes Da Man
I was pleased to hear of his inclusion and consequent appearance. It will do his confidence a world of good and provide extra cover!
roversman
Yeah big things to come he was tipped for stardom when we signed him, great to see it and sure will get chances, as Warnock likes to pick up those yellows doesn't he over time so he will deff get a chance, hopefully will take it and won't waste away like McEvely did a bit.
roverjoy
I felt sorry for McEverley though really as he didn't really get much of a chance did he?!?! Olsson will and WILL impress.
Did you see that thunderbolt Jay scored for Derby County last week in Pre-Season. WHAT a goal!!!
Hughes Da Man
Im glad for the lad Olsson, it must be good for the likes of Nolan, Taylor and other lads close to the 1st team that should you play well and the oppurtunity arises then Hughes has the faith in them to play them, fair enough it was only a pre-season game and maybe he may not have so quick to throw the lad on in a league game but sometimes u have to take a chance, sometimes they pay off
Clint
I know what you are saying, but at the same time Nolan and Taylor (especially Taylor) for example have been around a while longer than Olsson, and they don't appear to be likely to get a chance like Olsson any time soon?!?! So although it gives them something to aim at, it might work the otherway and they start thinking (especially Taylor) what do I have to do, am I reallt good enough?!?!
Hughes Da Man
He looked the absolute bees knees out there.... another good find from the Spark meister....

Well it would start to effect Taylor more as he is the natural replacement on the left, but Hughes knows wot he can do, he has seen more of him, I think it was Hughes just sounding out wot the other lads can do. We will see a lot more of the Nolan and Taylor this yr im sure of it, as Hughes has not really sent them out on loan recently.
Clint
How about a bit more of Peter as well... lets make the most of the squad, we have some good youngsters!
MikeyGamst
Whats the bet Mceveley scores against us this season!?!?!!? Touch wood....
