Hughes Happy Going Into The Season

Hughes Happy Going Into The Season

Blackburn Rovers Manager Mark Hughes is happy going into the 2007-2008 Premiership season off the back of a 3-0 victory over Preston North End this afternoon.

Thanks to goals from the Rovers defenders, a double from Christopher Samba (who has been among the goals in Pre-Season!!!) and a further goal from Andre Ooijer (who has also scored a couple) Rovers overcame Preston at Deepdale and can look forward to the curtain raiser with Middlesbrough with a victory behind them, following two successive Pre-Season defeats (sandwiched between two Intertoto Cup victories!!!)

Hughes was pleased with what he saw, and believes it proved the perfect tonic for the season ahead. He told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

"It was excellent, it was exactly what I wanted from the game today.

"There are seven days to go, we were a little bit disappointed with the performance in midweek so today we made sure we did alright and I thought we were excellent in all areas.

"We are seven days away from the start of the Premiership and if you are going to get results in the Premier League you need a good base.

"Today we showed we have a real defensive solidity to our play at the moment and that is what we need to take into the Premier League next week.

"Today we understood the importance of getting a good workout and I think we showed the benefit of the competitive games that we've had
."

Next weekend is when it REALLY counts, but a win (and a GOOD one at that!!!) will stand Rovers in good stead for Middlesbrough. Pre-Season is to a large extent irrelevant but it is better to go into the season of the back of a win and a good performance than the opposite!!!

apparently quite a once sided affair according to the radio. nice to see 3 goals and none conceded, although it would have been nice to have one from open play!

and just like Sparky, I am VERY happy going into this season. Great transfer window for us, both buying and (especially) retaining quality players~!

Yeah but set piecs are a strong point of ours now, got some big lads in the team and some quality delivery, could be how we win many games doesn't mater how they go in as long as they do in my opinion.

of course mate, just would've been nice! been watching the highlights of last season. The quality of balls for bentley, gamst and emerton is just astounding at times.. love the thought of roque's head on the end of some of those!

Great result at Deepdale, nice to see Samba on the scoresheet again. Agree with roverjoy, we're now as dangerous as anyone in the league from set pieces. Quite optimistic going into the new season, the squad is in great shape, lets just hope we can get off to a better start than we have in recent years!

I have to confess Blackburn were one off the sides, I would be looking at as a potential threat to 5th place. However while we've strengthened, their has been very little action at Ewood Park. I think you'll have a tough season ahead if their are ni significant signings

We don't need to strengthen Topspur, our team is already great, have gel and know each other, we don't have the odd £16mill to spend on who hasn't even broke into the England scene yet.

Well I'm glad you are so optimistic, but you know what they say roverjoy. If you aren't moving forward, you are infact going backwards. So unless you have some good younsters coming through, I would think you should be concerned

I wouldn't say I was worried about the lack of incoming players at Ewood. We had a solid team last season, and too many new playerd will result in longer gel period , and more opportunity for infighting. As we are already geled (should that be with a double L?), we should get off to a flyer. With Reid, Savage and Oojer coming back, it's like having three new signings anyway. Competition for places is good, so no-one can get away with not performing. I am uncharacteristically optimistic for the forth coming season...

Championship Cost Per Goal So Far In 2016/17

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
