Hughes After An Extended UEFA Run

Last season Blackburn Rovers had their most successful European season ever as they made the last 32 of the UEFA Cup. Mark Hughes is looking for more of the same, but he believes we can go even further this time.

With Rovers better prepared (in terms of new players arriving, and others fit and free from injury, all being well!!!) this season Hughes is certain that the club are more geared up for an even more successful UEFA Cup campaign this term, with the group stages the minimum aim (as they should be) but there is EVERY chance Rovers could make the last 32 again, and more!!!

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, before the Second Qualifying Round draw was made Sparky said:

"Our aim is the group stages. We really enjoyed the experience last season and if you get in to those group stages, you're guaranteed a number of games and that's what we'll be looking to achieve.

"We've got more experience than we had this time last year. The experience of playing Thursday-Sunday sometimes caused us a problem last season. We understand that concept now and we'll be better for the experience
."

Meanwhile the word is (from the Sun!!!) that Fulham are thinking about coming back with yet ANOTHER offer for Jason Roberts!!!

Rovers have already rejected at least one, possibly two bids for the powerful striker but if Fulham can offload Liam Rosenior (quite why they would want to I have NO idea, maybe it is because he isn't Irish?!?! As Lawrie Sanchez is loving his Irish midfielders and defenders isn't he!!!) to Reading they may be back with a further improved offer for JR.

I HONESTLY think that Rovers have a GREAT chance in the UEFA Cup this season, and would be disappointed at ANYTHING less than a place in the last 32 again, but we REALLY could go all the way guys!!! I thought we could last season, but with another year of togetherness, more experience and a few new faces we are well equipped, or at least should be.
You know my feelings on JR, we SHOULDN'T sell him but Fulham seem determined and a big enough offer might tempt Rovers, although personally I can't see Sparky wanting to sell him really, so unless JR wants to go he will go nowhere.

Yeah Rovers can go very far in this competition, very unlucky last season to go out partly Roberts fault coz he missed that chance in like the firstt five mintues in the first leg where he could just tap it in, but he kind of slipped and sat on the ball. This season though Roberts will be great looked our best player in pre-season, although his finishing is very lucky. If Fulham came in with a stupid offer though i would be tempted to sell he is getting on abit isn't he.

I sincerely hope we don't sell Roberts, and I would be very surprised if we did.

roverjoy - What we have to bare in mind though dude, wasn't that JR's first match back after injury?!?! He couldn't have been expected to have been as sharp as required in that case could he?
I can't see JR leaving in any case, and would be AMAZED if Sparky let him, as he will have a MASSIVE part to play in our season, including a lengthily (LOL!!!) UEFA Cup run.
Hughes Da Man
Yeah good point forgot that it just kind of came hand in hand with the story, im over that now anyway think he is awesome, definitely won me back, he has been our best player in pre season, and in the premiership even though i wanna see Santa Cruz play if Roberts keeps on scoring we don't want to break this form up do we. Really does suck that stupid ref at Spurs sending him off. That will not help him, really could have done with him for the first game of the season. I wouldn't want him to leave but if say £8 mill came in as a off would be a hard decision.
roverjoy
We wont sell him... Hughes knows he is a big part of the plans!!! Great result today and good performance as well... I think this year in the UEFA Cup we can go even further!!!
