Santa Cruz Excited To Be A Rover

Blackburn Rovers' latest signing Roque Santa Cruz was presented to the large number that turned up at Ewood Park today, and he has said how excited he is to be here.

Around 300 fans turned out as Santa Cruz was presented to the fans (and of course the media!!!) for the first time since his 3.3 million move from Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The Paraguayan International is looking forward to getting his Rovers career underway, and has confessed that the time was right for him to leave Germany and try his hand in the Premiership.

Santa Cruz told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

"It was easy, Blackburn were serious in me from the beginning and they showed me that they were really interested to have me here.

"That is exactly what I wanted and why I wanted to move from Bayern.

"I'm very happy to be here and I don't think I'll miss anything from Bayern. With the people I have met here today I know that we are going to make a good team.

"It is a big thing for me to be here, in South America the Premier League is shown everywhere, it will give my family the opportunity to see me.

"I am very excited about it already, I've talked about it with friends like Owen (Hargreaves) and now I just want to work so that as soon as possible I'll be good to play.

"It is a big thing for me to be here with Blackburn and I will do my best
."

He is saying what we want to hear isn't he, but it is not just being said because we want to hear it, I FULLY believe what he is saying.
When I first heard of interest I was VERY interest, but then thought we didn't really need him. Since getting him I have realised we did, and I'm MORE than happy to have him here now and CAN'T wait for him to get started.

Yeah i thought the same but was really excited when we signed him, World Class potential didnt really make it in Germany, but Hughes will make this guy amazing, he always does. Bettet than McCarthy i reckon, maybe not in goals at first but creativity and effort.

Don't forget his Nickname is Chico.... It's Chico Time.... we must learn a new song!
Ex Ewood Resident
Yeah, Sparky will do EXACTLY that, realise the potential that we all know he has. I still think that he IS a world-class player, who has just lost his way a bit due to injuries.
In goalscoring terms Benni wins hands down, and probably always will but for the others traits you mention dude Santa Cruz is WITHOUT doubt superior. in theory the two SHOULD compliment each other?!?!
Hughes Da Man
Ex Ewood Resident - Sorry dude, I keep forgetting, Chico it is from now on.

Extremely happy to see him in...however- this is probably the end for De-Vita&Garner- 2 talented strikers....
IsraeliRover
Israeli - don;t think so! both lads are young and will be farmed out to lower leagues to get some experience. We must remember that despite the talents of Benni and Chico then they will both be looking for promising moves to "Champions League" clubs. He came to us instead of the other clubs because Sparky was willing to take a chance, as he did with Benni. He is a straight replacement for Nonda. I reckon that if he could have got him on a year's loan then he would have done thta but Chico wanted to leave BM and the price had to paid. I have a real good feeling about this lad and expect him to shine, even more so than Benni, we'll wave bye bye to Benni next season and Chico may stay on for another season after that. This may sound negative but I think it is realistic, players want to push themselves to compete against the best. As far as De Vita and Joe are concerned... well Matty made it didn't he!
Ex Ewood Resident
IsraliRover, Joe Garner and Raffael De Vita are obviously not up to the standard of Premiership football yet are they, stick with Sparkys

judgement on things, Rigters and Santa Cruz wouldnt be brought in if these 2 were really going to stake a claim for a regular first team place. I know there local lads and everything but im afraid to say De Vita, Barker, Clarke and whoever else is coming up from the Academy has just about no chance in breaking through. Rigters - 300k Santa Cruz, 50+ CL games - 3.3m think thats better business than just trying to push locals through the system when they are not ready.
adrianbrfc
hats off to the ewood backroom. 3.3mill is a steal.
Derbyshire4England
and Joe Garner could be the next Matt Derbyshire so we cant get rid of him.
Derbyshire4England
HDM in theory they should compliment each other , hopefull they will coz Santa Cruz can knock down to Benni in the area and boom goal. ALso Santa can dribble quite good, so will give us that other option like Derbyshire and Roberts give us. They work well with Benni so im sure Chico as we say from now onwards will.

IsraeliRover - Totally disagree dude, they are both still only teenagers aren't they, surely they can't be written off yet!?!
adrianbrfc - I agree some won't make it, but feel De Vita and Garner WILL for reasons mentioned above.
