Blackburn Rovers Manager Mark Hughes is delighted to have added Roque Santa Cruz to his glittering list of strikers that leaves him delighted with the options he now has, which are PLENTY!!!
People say that Tottenham Hotspur have the best strikers in the League, but Matty Derbyshire, Benni McCarthy, Maceo Rigters, Jason Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz as FIVE mainline strikers isn't bad is it, with ALL of them Internationals at some level for their respective countries.
Before Santa Cruz's arrival Rovers already had four class strikers at Ewood Park, but Hughes believes that Santa Cruz's arrival now gives the club complete variation, with players of all types.
Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:
"It is something that I feel we needed, a target man, someone who gives us that threat and presence in the air which maybe our other strikers don't give.
"We've got great variation, I've got Matty (Derbyshire) and Maceo (Rigters) with great pace and enthusiasm, Benni (McCarthy) with his goalscoring ability, Jason (Roberts) with his power and his pace, but what we haven't had is probably a real threat in the air and that is what we have addressed.
"He's a young player, he's only 25, a current international, he has a good reputation and he comes from a top European club."
Rovers Chairman John Williams is also more than pleased, he added:
"We set off with the intention of securing quality at the right price, and I think we've achieved it."

This has to be one of the best, if not the best bunch of strikers in the Premier League surely?!?!
However, this HAS to spell the end for one, possibly two though, with Francis Jeffers and (as much as I hope not) Paul Gallagher most at threat???
Santa Cruz is a world-class performer who will be the dogs nuts, trust me. I'm glad Sparky decided to get this striker I thought we didn't need now, even more so that it is him.
Desert Kiwi - Yeah dude, it is getting closer, but I just want to GET on with it now!!!
roverjoy - I have mentioned the age thing somewhere else, but with Derbs, Rigters and Santa Cruz along, who are the younger generation we have the striker situation WELL and truely in hand don't we dude, the next five years (minimum) SHOULD yield a ***** load of goals!!!
