Hughes Delighted With His Options

Blackburn Rovers Manager Mark Hughes is delighted to have added Roque Santa Cruz to his glittering list of strikers that leaves him delighted with the options he now has, which are PLENTY!!!

People say that Tottenham Hotspur have the best strikers in the League, but Matty Derbyshire, Benni McCarthy, Maceo Rigters, Jason Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz as FIVE mainline strikers isn't bad is it, with ALL of them Internationals at some level for their respective countries.

Before Santa Cruz's arrival Rovers already had four class strikers at Ewood Park, but Hughes believes that Santa Cruz's arrival now gives the club complete variation, with players of all types.

Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

"It is something that I feel we needed, a target man, someone who gives us that threat and presence in the air which maybe our other strikers don't give.

"We've got great variation, I've got Matty (Derbyshire) and Maceo (Rigters) with great pace and enthusiasm, Benni (McCarthy) with his goalscoring ability, Jason (Roberts) with his power and his pace, but what we haven't had is probably a real threat in the air and that is what we have addressed.

"He's a young player, he's only 25, a current international, he has a good reputation and he comes from a top European club
."

Rovers Chairman John Williams is also more than pleased, he added:

"We set off with the intention of securing quality at the right price, and I think we've achieved it."

The strikers Rovers had were great, Roque Santa Cruz's arrival makes them AMAZING!!!
This has to be one of the best, if not the best bunch of strikers in the Premier League surely?!?!
However, this HAS to spell the end for one, possibly two though, with Francis Jeffers and (as much as I hope not) Paul Gallagher most at threat???

Just hope Santa Cruz can come good. Bit of a worryingly poor goal record. I mean Nonda and Franny probably eclipse his (and that is slightly concerning!)

But Sparky would not have signed him (especially for around 5 million!!!) had he had any doubts.
Santa Cruz is a world-class performer who will be the dogs nuts, trust me. I'm glad Sparky decided to get this striker I thought we didn't need now, even more so that it is him.
Hughes Da Man
he does need to score more goals
Derbyshire4England
40 goals in 140 games is not so bad considering he played most of them as a sub...
IsraeliRover
You're right, HDM, our strike power now looks awesome - he looks to be a fantastic signing, at a good price. Again...it just makes the wait until the season begins harder to bear...

Yeah a good strike force gettin abit old with Roberts and McCarthy though, looking forward to the season now though, lets hope we don't get let down on the opening day again by conceding 3 goals as usual.

IsraeliRover - Good point dude.
Desert Kiwi - Yeah dude, it is getting closer, but I just want to GET on with it now!!!
roverjoy - I have mentioned the age thing somewhere else, but with Derbs, Rigters and Santa Cruz along, who are the younger generation we have the striker situation WELL and truely in hand don't we dude, the next five years (minimum) SHOULD yield a ***** load of goals!!!

Roque had a bead time with injuries at Bayern so his goal record aint bad. He will be a hit in the league for certain and with him we have one of the better strike force in the league!! with only Utd, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal boasting better. Although the Gunners front line does not have the experince of the others but have absolute raw talent on their side. We will have front line to be feared both in the league and Europe, as we have players of various speed, power and abilites and can use different conbinations of this to suit a particular game and team
Clint
Some quality strikers there, and no Paul Dickov amongst them!
