Derbs: Give Me A Chance To Glow

Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire has not only been building up our chances of possible UEFA Cup glory this season, he has also taken time to look at his own contribution this season. And he HOPES that he is given the chance to prove what he can do.

Last season Derbyshire burst onto the scene at Ewood Park, taking the opportunity afforded him at the misfortune of other to show that he was worthy of a place in the team (as I had been banging on about for weeks prior!!!), fulfilling much of the promise the Blackburn born striker had shown.

After getting this place he went on to score 10 goals in total last season, as well as winning Under-21 caps with England, and scoring goals for them also (including a debut goal!) but now he is hoping that he will continue to be given a chance to show he is worth it.

The arrival of Maceo Rigters (and dare I say the imminent arrival of Roque Santa Cruz?!?!) added to what was already in place here, and will put further pressure on a starting place for Derbs, but competition is good for everyone, and ALL players will be needed this season. He feels that some may still doubt him, but all he is hoping for is the chance to prove them wrong.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph (once again, these quotes are from the Telegraph but I am not sure they were quoted direct to them?):

"People may doubt me, and that's fair enough, but all I can do is show them what I can do.

"To do that, I have to score goals. And to score goals, I have to play games. If I don't play I can't do anything. I just hope to get the games to answer a few people.

"We've got the new signings in and getting back the injured players - they are like new signings.

"We've got a great squad and we should be aiming for the top ten or even higher.

"Competition is going to be stronger than ever and I just hope to play as much as I can
."

This could look as if it is turning into a Matt Derbyshire show (with two articles being centred around him today, but you have to work with what you are given LOL!) but anyway, what can I say the kid deserves it!!!
Derbs WILL play his part and WILL score goals I am sure, and I am really looking forward to the contribution of the strikers this season, not that they didn't contribute last season by any means!!!
It is commonly regarded that Spurs have the best strikeforce in the Premier League, but Matt Derbyshire, Benni McCarthy, Maceo Rigters, Jason Roberts (in alphabetical order, not a preferential order LOL!) and possibly Roque Santa Cruz is a DAMN fine strikeforce isn't it!!! Not forgetting Paul Gallagher and Francis Jeffers as well.

Derb's will def play a part in the team this yr, no matter who we buy in the summer, Hughes has really built up this lads confidence and its onwards and upwards for one of Britain's best young talents

With all our AMAZING strikers this season im thinking we should go to a 4-3-3 formation to make sure all the strikers do play. As for Derbyshire, by my name u can tell im a MASSIVE fan of Derbyshire and i know he will do well.
Derbyshire4England
We have a very strong stikeforce thats for sure, I do believe that Spurs have the best strikers in the league but I wouldnt swap ours for many others in the Premiership
Clint
This is something we have been lacking in recent years and now we find ourselves with a strong strikeforce. Benni is the number one on the strength of last season and with contributions from JR, Derbs, Maceo and Santa we will hopefully see Rovers catapulted further up the league. Derbs is the future of this club and I reckon Hughes will nuture him again next season, not put too much pressure on him but give him the opportunities.

i hope blackburn will give him a chance this season

Welcome to the site Darren B!
Personally I think he has already proven he is a good player, but he will continue to do so this season. In time he will want to prove his is a GREAT player won't he.

lol.. can't play 4-3-3 we've got 2 quality wingers!!! could play 3-4-3 but that would mean dropping warnock .. so looks like we're stuck with 4-4-2 ! p.s. derbs is a hero!
Bents4eng
I think he knows he will get a chance and when he does get a chance just like with the U-21's he will get the goals and show us all what he can do... of that I am sure.
MikeyGamst
Bents4eng - Dude I'm happy with 4-4-2 really, no need to experiment that much with 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 or anything else, we do fine with 4-4-2 as it is.
Hughes Da Man
We need 4-4-2 as we need to use our two most productive players... the wingers.
