Wolves Sign Rovers Defender Gray

Officially Michael Gray was a FORMER Blackburn Rovers defender; having already left the club after his contract was not renewed. Either way he has signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

32-year-old former England International Gray was shown the Ewood Park door by Mark Hughes this summer, having spent the latter part of the 2006-2007 season on loan with Championship strugglers Leeds United. They had been keen to sign him on a permanent deal but after their relegation to League One, and their financial difficulties such a move was not ever that likely to happen.

Having spent the last couple of months looking for a team it is fellow Championship side Wolves (managed by his former Sunderland Boss Mick McCarthy) that have snapped him up, and I wish him well.

Gray told the Official Wolverhampton Wanderers website:

"Mick is a big part of me wanting to come here. Having worked with him in the past I know what he's all about.

"It's a very young squad and hopefully I can pass on some of my experience
."

Gray is WELL past Premiership level now, so is much better suited to the Championship now (although you could argue he may evne find this tough?!?!) but will certainly do well with Wolves, so I wish him well.

you just can't beat quality free signings.

Going to be great for Wolves, was good for us even last season when he had a run in the team, shame Souness ruined his career a bit. But good luck at wolves and could be in with a chance for promotion next season.

When he came in around November time I personally though he was absolutely superb, so at that time was more than a little unlucky to be dropped again so if he can replicate ANYTHING like that form for Wolves they've got a really good footballer that will serve them well, good lucky Mickey Gray!
