Roberts to remain a Rover

Jason Roberts has held talks about his future with Blackburn boss Mark Hughes and has decided that Rovers is the best place for him to be.

Roberts' future has been the subject of speculation with the player believed to be keen on a move to London for personal reasons.

Blackburn turned down a bid from Fulham for the powerful forward earlier this month as Hughes has always expressed his desire to keep hold of the Grenada powerhouse.

Roberts admitted he spoke to the club about his future and he says he is content to pledge his future to Blackburn.

Speaking to Sky Sports...

'I spoke to the club about things when the bid came in from Fulham,' Roberts told The Sun. 'I have family in London and the Jason Roberts Foundation charity is based there.

'But there's no rush for me. I'm happy here.

'The manager knows that and I'll carry on working hard and doing my best for Rovers.'

Jason also clarified that his best friend and fellow strike partner Benni McCarthy will not be leaving either.

'There are no problems for Benni. He has said he wants to play in the Champions League again. But don't we all want to play in that competition?

'Benni is a true professional and focused on doing as well as he can for Rovers.

'He has a lot of respect for the people here and he'll show that when he's out on the pitch. He'll carry on working hard.'

Well I for one am pleased but also suprised this statement has been issued. Jason is very honest but most importantly put the record straight. He is going to be a Rovers player and spearhead another push for Europe.

And I can think of one person called 'Mikey' who is delighted... and maybe Hughes Da Man as well.

Finally some decent news emanating from the Benni and JR 'I want to leave' stories. Great to hear that both are sooo 'committed' to the Rovers cause. Alas, it sounds as though they are happy enough and if they can score plenty next season, ie Benni replicating last season's form and JR finding those shooting boots to prove me and thr doubters wrong then great.
roversman
He will roversman dont worry... JR is a lot better than people give him credit for. Benni will always give his all.... like they say, they were just being honest.
MikeyGamst
Here here MikeyGamst!! I fully agree with you! I can see a lot more goals going in this season, especially if they both stay fit!!Top 6 finish well within our capbilities!!!
SyekotikRover
You done me again here Mikey, I had something planned for this but couldn't get round to actually typing it!!! Once again you proved, you snooze you lose LOL! It was either going to be me or you doing it wasn't it though dude as you are his third, I am his second (LOL!) wife.
Hughes Da Man
I know that not EVERYONE is JR's biggest fan (MikeyGamst and I seem to be the founder members of our own Jason Roberts Fan Club LOL!) but the news that he will stay is great news for the club, and those doubters will find out why this season!!!
A fully fit JR is worth his place in the side, he will not only score goals but help create goals for others.
My ONE concern though (although this is probably reading too much into it?!?!) the comments seem to lack the real passion to want to be here, they aren't bursting with enthusiasm saying things like "I don't want to leave at all, I am more than happy to be here and don't want to go ANYWHERE." Do you know what I mean guys?!?!
Hughes Da Man
we need Roberts
Derbyshire4England
I see what you are saying HDM but as long as the commitment is there and he does genuinely want to be here then thats all that matters!!!
MikeyGamst
HDM... you are Roberts Second Wife and Matt Derbyshire's father?!?!?! We are keeping it in the family lol....
MikeyGamst
Count me in the fan club. It's great news to hear a bit of positivity coming from the team, especially seeing as it's from these two trouble makers!
martinr
I think it is mainly Benni that is the trouble maker not JR... a lot of what he has "said" has been media speculation.
MikeyGamst
MikeyGamst - Yeah, keeping it in the Rovers family LOL!
I guess you are right dude, it should be enough commitment, so I'm happy.
Derbyshire4England - You are part of the I heart JR club too then!
martinr - You are definately part of that club after what you said (the numbers are growing!!!)
Hughes Da Man
Yeah definitely have to keep Roberts he has won me over with his pre season effort and form. Such a shame he got injured last season, but this season going to be in double figures i reckon.
roverjoy
after his performances and commitment at the end of last season every rovers fan should be in the JR fan club.
Derbyshire4England
roverjoy - TOTALLY agree dude (although it didn't take Pre-Season to win me over, I was there already) I htink he will easily get into double figures, and have said before that he WILL help create goals for others in the double figures also!!!
Derbyshire4England - EXACTLY dude, I like your style.
Hughes Da Man
Good calls all round here, some people may not like the touch that JR has but no-one can doubt his effectiveness.
