Jeffers To Stay At Rovers And Fight

Blackburn Rovers striker Francis Jeffers WILL be staying at Ewood Park, and WON'T be sent out on loan this season. Instead Mark Hughes expects him to fight for a place in the team.

It was expected that Jeffers would leave Ewood this summer, and was told that if the right offer came him he could. This right offer eventually came in from Ipswich Town; however, Jeffers would not agree personal terms so nothing happened and he stayed here.

With FOUR strikers ahead of him in the pecking order Jeffers faces an uphill battle to even get on the bench, but having seen a move away fail to materialise he will be staying, and Hughes (who has said all along that Jeffers is still part of his plans) is adamant that he WON'T be allowed to leave on loan again this term, instead he WILL have to fight for his place.

Rovers Boss Hughes said (these quotes were taken from Sky Sports, but I do not know if they were said directly to them?):

"He's still part of our plans but it's just going to be a little bit more difficult for Franny to break through.

"But he's here and he's our player and I won't be looking to send him out on loan.

"He'll be here and trying to get in the side
."

As I have said ALL ALONG I'm happy either way. Part of me always wanted him to stay, to give that little bit of extra competition, and hopefully he will add this.
It may be considered doubtful, but guys I will not be at all surprised if he gets a chance and takes it!!!
And I hope on both counts it happens.

i would of rather flogged him of, i dont think he has much to contribute
sasman
Yeah i agree would have much rather him go for 1million, won't play hardly, but still he did alright last season when he played so who knows.
roverjoy
A player who had bags of potential as a youngster, what went wrong?
worbo
hopefully sparky wont want 2 bring in another striker now he is staying.
Derbyshire4England
i do hope we bring another striker, maybe it will show him he aint wanted at rovers, im sure some championship club wouldnt mind him in their books
sasman
On current form he is not a top half of the premiership player but would do well if he moved down a league. My first thought was that £1m was a fare price but having seen Fowler go for £750,000, I know which striker I would rather have in my team. Shame his wage demands are so excessive, I hope we are not paying him that much? Moving him on would now seem to be to everyones benefit, we could get some cash in hand to add to what is already there to ensure Mark Hughes can compete better for a replacement striker. The wage bill comes down and if no one becomes available in this transfer window, the fee received would be in the deposit account (earning interest) and available for the winter transfer window. For cover, when needed, bring one of the youngsters through to sit on the bench, it worked for us with Derbyshire, we have two or three others who should be given a challenge to see how they perform. We don't take enough of our options in this area these days. Too frightened of loosing a game I suppose but we lost anyway against bottom teams last season. If we don't bring more youngsters through our own club, as well as using the transfer market, is the Academy a good investment or a waste of resources? I strongly believe it is the former so lets use our young home grown reserves more.

Can someone plz tell me where are all the 90M$ we're supposed to recieve for the SKY rights???
IsraeliRover
Its been absorbed by the reduced ticket prices and whats the point in spending over the odds for players like Darren Bent???

r.waterfall - I'm TOTALLY with you dude, I want to see our own produce given more of a chance, this is why I don't think we need a right-back or another striker as we have this of our own coming through, what's the point of having the senior players we do if these can't be used as back-up before taking over?!?! If they aren't good enough get rid, if they are give them a chance!!!
MikeyGamst - Amen, completely agree with you as well dude. WHY spent for the sake of spending?!?! If you don't spend you can't be screwed like Spurs were when they were RIPPED off when they signed Bent.
Hughes Da Man
I'm annoyed we have'nt managed to offload Jeffers yet. He has no future at this club so what's the point keeping him for the coming season, he'll hardly get a game. Waterfall made a good point about how much Fowler went for. We're asking for too much here, its as simple as that. I say let him go for £250,000 - £500,000 and he'll be snapped up. That's all he's really worth anyway!!
spinaker7081
Absolutely no point in keeping him at all, with Hughes after Santa Cruz, Jeffers gona be battling to get in the reserves front 2.
